Demolition/Our World

Demolishing a house in the country

Lat Friday, it was sad but fascinating to watch an old house being torn down, but this one had been condemned. It was was on town property next to town soccer fields - recently purchased - and would cost taxpayers  more than it was worth to renovate it.

A claw takes the wall down bit by bit

Among other problems, bats were living in the attic. I saw several anxious bats flying around, upset their home was being destroyed.

Oh this is always sad I watch my old childhood home being torn down lately and it tugs at my heart. I wonder how many hearts are being tugged by this one. Great shots. B

It's sad ending for the house. My childhood home was torn down and a hi-rise apartment build built on the site.

That big red piece of equipment really looks like it is taking a "bite" out of the house. Sort of science fiction material.

It sure is sad. We watched an old church get taken down, but they saved every board, nail and shingle.

always makes me sad to see these old homes destroyed. one thing for sure here in USA we will never have centuries old homes like they have in Europe

better to have it torn down than turned into a drug house or an arson target, i suppose.

I'd guess it was quite a fine-looking place at one time. Why does it almost always seem easier to destroy something than to build it?

It looked like a nice looking house at one time or another. It is sad to see a place torn down.

It is sad, but is good as well to make way for a new one.

I understand the money issue, but still sad to see homes torn down.

And it didn't take them long either, did it, with that rig.

It always amazes me how quickly they come down!

I think it is always sad -- but interesting -- to see a building that was once a home being demolished.

I hate seeing old houses abandoned and/or demolished; it's such a waste.

I hate seeing old houses torn down, too, but sometimes there just aren't that many alternatives! Great captures for the day, EG! Does look like it was a lovely house at one time! Enjoy your week!

I am sure they had good reason for tearing down this house. It is a shame the bats lost their home, I hope they find a new home soon. Cool photos.

Hope the bats are alright. Boom & Gary of the Vermilon River, Canada.

A shame, but sure that more good will come from it now it has gone.

Wow, I do hope that bats will find a new home.

And if you leave a condemned house beside a soccer field, someone is going to go exploring...
At least you got some photos!

That's kind of sad to see. The house doesn't look too bad but I guess bats in the attic is not a good thing. They carry a lot of disease in their excrement. Eww.

Very hard to witness. A little sad to see a piece of history disappear...and I understand. Hopefully the bats will find another place to call home. Pretty traumatic on a couple levels.

It is a balancing act. Someone lived here and perhaps good memories were created here, but today it is in bad shape and the location can be put to a better purpose.

Too bad but understandable that the house was torn down.

So, so sad.

How sad, but perhaps something beautiful will be built there instead.

What excellent captures of the sad process. The photos are beautiful within the nostalgic mood.

It's always so sad to see a house go down, a part of someones life destroyed. But, that happens. such is life.
