Mid Fall/Nature Notes

Lake Scugog, Port Perry, Ontario

Mid- fall already! Last weekend I found a few stalks of goldenrod still in bloom but most have gone to seed. Shrubs and trees were still colourful and the Scugog Rowing Club was still out practicing and spooking some migrating ducks.

Last week, I neglected to say that staghorn sumac is NOT the same as poison sumac.  So this week I am remembering to write that goldenrod is NOT the culprit that causes hay fever.  Blame your itchy eyes and stuffy nose on ragweed!

Nice photos. How does one tell the difference between Stag Sumac and poison sumac. I would like to pick some that are growing along the road for outdoor arrangements.

Perfect shots of fall. NOT a fan of ragweed. My eyes go crazy when that's in the air....and then if I itch...forget about it:)

Beautiful photos. Goldenrod, ragweed, fortunately I am not allergic because I don't know what is what out in the wild.

I never fail to be at awe with the richness of fall colors. I wish I too could experience fall in this part of our world but your photos are sufficient. Take care :)

Great post! Love the wonderful mid-fall color in your beautiful shots. We have a lot of staghorn sumac in the deep south where I am from and it is always such a lovely herald of fall!

Lovely autumn images. I'd guess it might have been kind of chilly out there on the lake - good incentive to keep rowing!
