Nature Notes

Early February

Largest square: juvenile snowy owl atop a spruce tree. Snowy owls are still here but will leave soon for the Arctic to breed.

Moving clockwise: a female cardinal on a spruce branch, frost and snow on dried milkweed pods, sun going down during a snow squall, ice crystals on ice and ice and slowing water in a local stream.

Beautiful snow owl. I've never seen one. They don't usually come this far south, but my daughter said they have seen one at their farm in SW Minnesota.

Beautiful shots. I'm so envious of your owl shot. I've seen a few owls but have never managed to photograph them.

Cool that you get visits from snowy owls. A lovely cardinal! The photo of the dried milkweed pods is quite artsy.

Okay, you need to branch out into professional nature photography. Amazing. I've never seen a snowy owl and that's beautifully captured. I've never seen a female Cardinal that looks like this one. You're very good!
