Pied-billed grebe

 Juvenile Pied-billed Grebe (Podylimbus podiceps)

I'm not sure why haven't posted this photogenic little guy. I took this photo in early August and by now it likely looks pretty much like an adult.

 Looking back

This juvenile has several brothers and sisters that I have only seen from a distance. But one day this little one was bravely swimming on its own  quite close to the edge of the pond where I was standing.  I was the only human there so no one had yet frightened it away.

Coming up from a dive, I think (I forget)

I am connecting to Stewart M's Wild Bird Wednesday HERE

Cute little chap. Occasionally a pied-billed grebe turns up in this country. But when they do you'll certainly not be on your own watching it.

Aren't the juveniles stunners??!!!! They remind me of winged zebras. Great close ups. I'm waiting for that perfect grebe moment.....you know the one:) It when momma carries all the little zebras on her back. I still haven't seen that one but keep crossing my fingers that it will happen:)
