I just have to ask ... why a guard llama? I mean I know they will spit at you if you disturb them, but is there more I should know. I think it is really cool, especially if they can really take on a wolf or a coyote ... but this is all new to me. Great pictures by the way :)

This is a very pretty llama in its coloring and markings. They're becoming quite popular here in Texas although I'm not really so sure that they have super guard duties but they are known to alert herds as to impending danger. In fact, something killed one of our neighbor's llamas and it was thought to have been a coyote, the one predator around here we think of as being a danger to small calves and pets. I guess that llama must have fallen asleep on his watch or maybe just wasn't on guard duty that night.

they seem so gentle and sweet, hardly a guard anything but they must have 2 sides!!!!

Beautiful the work you put it EG, I am in love.

I know they have an innate loathing for canines, which is what makes them very good shepherds. They'll stand up to a wolf or a coyote, and they're a lot bigger. The predator or predators will decide it's a better idea to go look for an easier meal.

What a cute face! I wonder if they call that color llama an appaloosa. Probably not.

An unusual animal, and some interesting facts I didn't know...

I do love the llama, but never knew they were used as guards!! How great is that!! Love it when I start the day learning something new!! What a cute face he/she has indeed!! And I'm smiling from ear to ear!! Have a lovely weekend!!

Oh my gosh, I love your first picture of him!! And he is pretty too, with the spots. Llamas guard sheep? Really? I had no idea! I guess if the sheep get out of line, they spit on them.

Pretty spotted coat.

The Llama seems to be taking its responsibilities seriously, I like the first photo with the big smile.

Gotta watch these guys - they'll spit in your eye and take a bit out of your nose if they think you are not to their liking. :)

It looks like it is still hanging on to its winter coat.

Love that face.

Hi TIna,
This Llama is very adorable.
If you don't mind me saying so, he/she looks like Buster from Arthur (the kids show on PBS).
I have never seen a Llama with beautiful designs like that. Very cool one!

I am so glad for you - your computer is back in working condition :)

Have a Beautiful Weekend!
Peace :)

What a gorgeous llama!

What a pretty creature. Here in Australia we don't see a lot of Llamas (in fact I don't think I have ever seen one). However, Alpacas are very popular and used as guard animals as well as for their wool.
