Beach Fencing

Fencing on foggy day, Plum Island, Massachusetts

I was visiting the New England coast last weekend and my biggest request was to see the ocean. I LOVED that salty sea air!. So refreshing!

Slightly different view

Great shots, it looks old but still functioning. It looks like they are trying hard to stabilize the beach.

the salt air blowing off the Atlantic ocean is one of our most favorite things in the world. and the sound at night of the wind and roar of surf... nothing like the Atlantic beaches.

I too like wandering along the waters edge on a beach. The fence looks a bit wobbly.

This is a classic beach view ... beautifully done, EGC ... I agree there is something invigorating about the fresh salty air of the ocean. I can almost smell it now ...

I suppose only on the beach would you see fences like these. Just like the dunes, they look like they've been blown by the wind.

The beach houses in New England are so different from the ones down south. Been a long time since I was on the coastline up there!

I agree with your feelings about the seaside. I once wanted to live along the Pacific Ocean. Now, I feel it is just better to visit once in awhile. The coast is a harsh environment.

Ah, I do love the beaches whether New England or the Pacific northwest!! The old fence is terrific and I bet it could tell some great stories!! Wonderful captures as always, EG, thanks for sharing the beauty -- as always!! Hope your week is going well!

I don't know why, but I always love these beach fences...there is just something about them that is so appealing. Maybe because they don't always go in a straight line. But I know that isn't all of it.

Gives me an idea of what it would be like to have a cottage right on the beach. So peaceful and beautiful.

A curious fence and an unusual coastline, at least for us...

That is a part of the country I've not seen before - I've been to the coast in Connecticut and New Hampshire but not Massachusetts. Your photos are very enticing! It's a different kind of scene from what you'd find in Florida.

Those graceful sand fences are one of the things I'll always remember about our trip up the East Coast. I'm so glad you got to the see the Ocean!!!

The houses call up visions of movies I've seen. I'm imagining the fences keeping their front yards from washing away. Very quaint, it looks like a great spot for a vacation.

Lovely shots! I grew up near the ocean and there is nothing like the smell of salt air and the sound of the waves crashing on the shore.

You've really caught my idea of an Atlantic beach and a coastal mood in general. Wonderful shots. (I live within a mile of salt water and never tire of the scent and the mood of it.)

Beautiful images. That's a fence design I've never seen at the beach. Here, at least. I wonder if the fence works in some way to hold back the sand?

Beach fences always intrigue me. This one looks like it has stood the test of time... for now anyway.

I love NH's coastline. We've been to Hampton Beach which is so beautiful and the homes and cottages are gorgeous. The dune fencing has a good purpose and I see that some grasses have been planted to keep the dunes in place too. Lovely coastal photos. I also like the ones of the old Quaker house.
