It had been one of those long dreary days with no sunshine, when just as the sun was getting ready to set it peeked through the mist and clouds to remind us it was still up there. The sky was lovely for a few minutes and then POOF! it was gone.
I also like the way the dark clouds to the left almost mirror the shape of the trees at the edge of this farmer's field. Pure serendipity.

I know what you mean about dreary days in winter. But this shot is wonderful! I love the intense colour of the sun, and then the trees echoing the shapes of the horizon!
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing!
Amazing colors. You are right, the cloud shape looks like someone put it there just for artistic effect.
ReplyDeleteDarla
Oh wow, that is spectacular! How lucky you were to have seen it.
ReplyDeleteTiming is everything. I love this, especially the clouds mirroring the trees, as you pointed out.
ReplyDeleteGreat capture... the colours really do make it...

Your sky is beautiful. Here it is filled with brilliant sunshine.
ReplyDeleteI would rather be doing most anything except sitting in the house looking at the sun shine on all this snow.
I don't know about you, but my head reels with ideas and things I either want to do, should do, or wish I did — that I don't have much time left to do anything but take a nap.
Carpe Diem!

Beautiful!
ReplyDeleteI noticed the 'tree shadow' clouds - perfect.
I totally understand what you mean about the sun then suddenly it's gone!
ReplyDeleteSkyWatch#11
that is such a stunning photo.......we do live in a beautiful country don't we?
ReplyDeleteGill
Soft and lovely time of day, or evening...thanks for pointing out those clouds!
ReplyDeleteBeautifully captured! It's lovely the way your photo resembles a watercolour painting.
ReplyDeleteGorgeous light play!
ReplyDeleteCheers, Klaus
If I use just the tiniest bit of imagination, I can see the ocean -- or a bay at least -- in this shot. The snow pack on top of (what I assume is a) frozen lake could easily be the surface of a calm sea.
ReplyDeleteSplendid!
I love it when there is something so beautifully redeeming to a dreary day. This one definitely fits the bill!
ReplyDeleteLove it. Have a nice skywatch and weekend:)
ReplyDeleteMy oh my! You captured another beauty! Happy SWF...
ReplyDeleteThat is a beautiful shot. I love the way it looks when the sun comes out just long enough to set on the snow. That happened where I lived on Tuesday when we finally got some snow. I know you are probably tired of the snow and winter but I was so glad to see it.
ReplyDeleteWow, that is simply gorgeous! It almost looks like an abstract, with that splash of color against the grays and whites... have a wonderful weekend. :)
ReplyDeleteFantastic picture!! Great colours, captured on the right moment.
ReplyDeleteAlso love the sepia picture of the old barn, well done.
Serendipity indeed! So wonderful that you were offered the glimpse on that otherwise dreary weather day. Beautiful, BEAUTIFUL capture!
ReplyDeleteBut you caught it at the right moment!
ReplyDeleteYou never dissapoint. I was rushed to put mine up today and I wish it was anywhere near as lovely as this.
ReplyDeleteYou do live in a most beautiful part of the earth. My family had a cottage near the lake many years ago so thank you for sharing your lovely views of the sky with us all.
ReplyDeleteThe Watery Wednesday photo is just perfect for a winter view.
One heck of a beautiful photo. Two thumbs up!
ReplyDeleteReally beautiful! I see what you mean about the clouds mirroring the trees. Love it.
ReplyDeleteThis looks so beautiful and peaceful. I'd love to stand there with a cup of hot coffee and watch the sun go down.
ReplyDeletePerfect skywatch shot, looks as cold there as it is here.
ReplyDeleteCheers!

And you caught those few minutes, fantastic.
ReplyDeleteAs always magnificent! Excellent!
ReplyDeleteIt's true with sunsets you have to be very fast otherwise the most important moment has gone.
Goregeous shot. It looks like heaven opens.
ReplyDeleteWonderful shot. the sunset is gorgeous, and I agree that the clouds almost outlining the trees adds something special.
ReplyDeleteYES! You always have to hurry when the skys turnes out that way - and this time you really made it!!! Wonderful!
ReplyDeleteThank you so very much for the nicest words on my blog. I give them right back :)
Just beautiful. Your photograph of a rink being prepared reminded me of my very freezing winters that I spent there. The family had ice hockey matches on a small pond.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad you were able to take the photo before the "poof" :)
ReplyDeleteMe again. About the plaque and what it is made of. The picture was taken with a fairly long tele-zoom, so I cannot tell for sure, but I have seen some where it is carved wood glued on another piece of wood.
ReplyDeleteFantastic! Gorgeous picture!
ReplyDeleteThe first thing I notice about your wonderful photo is the colors! I like the purple in the sky and how the snow looks blue.
ReplyDeleteWhat a gorgeous shot as always! It is interesting how the clouds have shaped themselves (seemingly) to the trees. They almost look like a dust storm somehow. Not sure why that's what it looks like to me, but...
ReplyDeleteLovely colors! Nice to visit your blog in Canada; I have a brother living over there. :-)
ReplyDeleteGreat photo, even with the red sun it still liiks very cold.
ReplyDeleteThis is a beautiful shot. It would make a beautiful postcard.
ReplyDeleteWonderful sky and colours! Lucky you! As you said on my blog; I love it when the sun wins! Even if it is for a short time! Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful view and color shot. Good chance
ReplyDeleteThis is so stunning. I really like the subtle and delicate way in which the lines of the horizon are illuminated. I know what you mean about dreary. Here too.
ReplyDeleteExcellent photograph with very beautiful sunset, marvellous post.
ReplyDeleteHave very good Weekend
Dreary grey winter days knocked out with this splash of vibrant colours.
ReplyDeleteGood job you were there to catch this great shot!
ReplyDeleteA beautiful shot and it was for pictures like this that I started Sky Watch!
ReplyDeleteHi!
ReplyDeleteVery Beautiful!!! Thanks for stopping by my place. Have a great day!
Sherrie
A few minutes is all it takes to capture a wonderful view like this. :)
ReplyDeleteBeautiful! :)
Those little glimpses of sun mean so much when they are so rare. Lovely photo!
ReplyDeleteVery pretty and the clouds mimic the trees, great shot, always love to come to East Gwillimbury it is a "bonza" place.
ReplyDeleteSo beautiful!
ReplyDeletethat's an amazing shot...like the feathery-shapes of the clouds ...
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful ending to a dreary day!
ReplyDeleteThis must have been a nice reminder that the warmth of the sun was still there for ya on the horizon.
ReplyDeleteI've seen sunsets just like this around here, and they are most enjoyable in the harsh elements of winter.
ReplyDeleteB
I have noticed that the sun will shine for a few minutes at dawn and dusk even on a cloudy day. What a wonderful moment you captured!!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful shot. Just like a drawing on a canvas. I like it! If you visit my Sky Watch, don't forget to watch the Spitting Fish, too! See you.
ReplyDeleteTerrific picture, thanks so much.
ReplyDeleteAmazing shot!
ReplyDeleteDays of cold winter but filled with a touch of warmth from the sun :)
ReplyDeleteWOW, beautiful photo!
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing.
Take care
EG: I have noticed a lot of short Winter beauty so you have to be ready. I'm so glad you got this one, what a special sunset at peak timing. You could print this one to display.
ReplyDeleteVery very beautiful - so calming & lovely!!!
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful picture ! so romantic !
ReplyDeleteHi Ms. TourGuide, this is a pretty, but bleak, sky you have. I like the snow pictures but I rather have our still green Texas grass.
ReplyDeleteHappy SkyWatching, it's been a while. Today my sky is one from Florida.
..
Beautiful photo. Over here its summer and nice and hot. In winter we don't have snow, so I have never been in snow. Maybe one day.
ReplyDeleteYou caught a very nice one! I like your observations about it also.
ReplyDeleteBoy your shot is my favorite so far. Just lovely. How lucky that you caught it right at that moment. Hi from Calif and enjoy Friday.
ReplyDeleteWe are on the same side of the globe...
ReplyDeleteI really enjoy seeing photos from down under lol....Great orangey sky though Happy weekend!

Beautiful! =)
ReplyDeleteI'm glad you caught that for us all before the poof! Great shot.
ReplyDeleteThe sun will be remembered! It's as if Mother Nature knows we need a dose of light--at just the last minute.
ReplyDeleteGreat photo.
What a wonderful view and pic of it!
ReplyDeleteGood eye, EG. The trees and clouds are excellent. Beautiful sunset---if only for a moment. MB
ReplyDeleteGorgeous shot and colors. Very well composed.
ReplyDeleteThat is really beautiful. I'm so glad you had your camera with you for this one.
ReplyDeleteOh my gosh, I didn't realize it was a field of snow until I finished reading your commentary. Eek. Wish I could invite all you cold ones down here. But that is a beautiful sky nevertheless!
ReplyDeleteNice shot and I, too, love the clouds echoing the tree line.
ReplyDeleteAn amazing photo!!
ReplyDeletestunning. I love how the foreground and the clouds at the top mirror each other a bit too. And yes, so cool how the clouds are similar shape as the trees, the light is lovely!
ReplyDeleteI love the mirroring of the trees on the left, too. I also see a surfer on the right (well, at least that's what it looks like to me.) :-)
ReplyDeleteSave the light of the sun just for the right moment, and give you the opportunity of this wonderful picture.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful photo!
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful and dramatic shot! How lucky you were to see it and even better that you had your camera!
ReplyDeleteOh, EG, words fail me...I am late commenting, but I can't see this and not say something. It is wonderful!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful sky - great colour - great that you snapped it before it was gone :)
