American Bittersweet/ Macro Monday

A closeup of American Bittersweet (Celastrus scandens)

Round, orange-yellow capsules open in autumn to reveal fleshy orange-red seedpods that remain on the plant's vines through much of the winter and provide food for birds and squirrels.

  2. I absolutely LOVE Bittersweet. I know where there is some in the woods, and if it ever quits raining I'll go check on it.

  3. I'm so glad that nature provides food for the birds and critters during the winter. I do the best I can feeding my birds---but there are many which are not close to bird feeders.

Neat post and great picture of the Bittersweet.
    Hugs,

  9. Excellent shot of a beautiful berry. They look great in Autumn Wreaths. I found a similar shrub growing wild and the berries are shaped the same only pinkish red---must be a variety. Again excellent shot. MB

  21. Ciel,
I don't think they are edible for humans. The birds don't chose to eat them till many other yummies are totally gone,
