Bucolic Spring/ Sky Watch

Has anyone seen Mary and her little lamb?

Keep watching because I'm pretty sure Mary will be walking along this fence line any time now. And you know who will be following her.

High Style/ Window Views

House #1 with a tower
Hmmmm....

House #2 with tower

Notice anything similar about these two towers?  One is on a human house and...

one is for the birds.

I wish I could have taken a better photo of the human house but it's surrounded by a fence. The birdhouse - made to look like the house complete with two rooster weather vanes - is on a pole above the fence. (Squint your eyes and you can see one of the tiny weather vanes above the left-hand tower.) Lucky birds, don't you think?

Kitchikewana/ My World

A statue of the Oendat god Kitchikewana in Penetanguishene, Ontario

According to Oendat (Huron) legend,  Kitchikewana - in a fit of rage in reaction to being spurned by the woman he loved - created five of the bays on the southern shore of Georgian Bay, which he gouged out with his enormous fingers. The rocks and earth he scooped out he tossed into Georgian Bay, creating 30,000 islands.

Cow in Front Yard/ SOOC

Not usually seen on city front lawns

But in the country it's not uncommon to be greeted by cattle as you drive up a driveway.

Wood duck/ Camera Critters

Wood duck swimming in the creek near a railway bridge

I tried to be very quiet so this wood duck would swim nearer for me to take a  close-up photo...

but he turned and swam into the marshy areas alongside the creek.  Maybe next time!

Lumber Cars/ Weekend Reflections

Empty lumber cars crossing over a railway bridge

This train looks like it's stopped, but it was moving northwesterly to North Bay, Ontario and then to points west. The lumber cars are returning to pick up a new load.

The Canadian National Railway passes through East Gwillimbury many times every day heading west to Prince Rupert, British Columbia on the Pacific Ocean...or east to Halifax, Nova Scotia on the Atlantic Ocean...or to three U.S. ports (Mobile, Alabama, New Orleans, Louisiana, and Gulfport, Mississippi) on the Gulf of Mexico.

Osprey Nest/ Macro Monday

Closeup of an osprey nest on a light standard over a soccer field

Again this week, a closeup, not a macro. A pair of osprey returned to East Gwillimbury about two weeks ago. The two have been repairing last year's nest.

The front view of the light standard. It's a long way up.

Grecian Windflowers/ Today's Flowers

Grecian Windflower (botanical name: Anemone blanda)

This daisy-like flower is approximately 1 to 2 inches in diameter and comes in shades of lavender, pink, white or blue, although they are all lavender in my garden.

Here you see a bud just about ready to open...

and here you see one even closer to blooming. Most years Grecian windflowers bloom in my gardens for five or six weeks.
