The Old Stone Jail, Beaverton, Ontario
This is among the oldest surviving stone buildings in Beaverton, Ontario, probably built around 1850. It's now part of a museum but was originally placed near the town's hotels, likely because itinerant workers and tourists were the trouble makers - certainly not the local townspeople. (wink, wink)

This certainly is a well-preserved building. It would be nice to visit, but that would make me a tourist and hence a trouble maker!
ReplyDeleteWell at least you weren't on the inside looking out. those old jails were meant to last so no one could break out. Haha!! MB
ReplyDeleteWould not want to spend the night in there. Nope, prefer my own bed. No trouble making from me.
ReplyDeleteI also prefer to stay out of trouble!
ReplyDeleteInteresting old building!
ReplyDeleteYou might want to check your word at the title. . . I was trying to figure out what a widow had to do with it.

ReplyDeleteIt was made strong..
Good thing to shoot the photographs from the outside.

It looks like it's a very strong building even if it is more than a century old. Happy Wednesday!

ReplyDeleteI'll be good so I don't have to go there either!
ReplyDeleteNice stone.
Oh, my, wish that was my studio, without the bars of course...though on second thought, with my sewing machines, they might not be a bad idea. haha Nah, I wouldn't want them, but I love stone buildings of any kind.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad it's still standing there today. If walls could talk, eh?
ReplyDeleteEG: Love the bars in the windows, reminds me of the old westerns when they would rip them out to escape jail.

ReplyDeleteGlad to know that the "proper" folks never created any problems up in them thar parts!
It looks rough, but I hear the basement is quite lavish.
ReplyDeleteAnd each cell has its own window? Luxury!
ReplyDeleteThe stone is so worn and beautiful! Great pics EG!
ReplyDeletei love old buildings, but it's funny thinking about it now....i couldn't imaging actually having to do jail time, it must have been freezing in those days.
ReplyDeleteIt's good that such historic building is still around!
ReplyDeleteLovely stonebuilding but I prefer a hotelroom, hi hi!
ReplyDeleteAnd yes you can come for a rhubarb pie anytime!!!
