Lady's-slipper/ Today's Flowers

Early morning dew on a showy lady's slipper (Cypripedium reginae) living in the wild

This is a northern orchid, the showiest one we have in Ontario.  It prefers to live in wet areas, many of which are currently being drained at an alarming rate to build housing developments and shopping malls in central and southern Ontario.

Showy lady's slippers in afternoon shade also living in the wild

Thanks for stopping by Wiggers World today and commenting on the Weather Vane.. when I come across others I will make a point of posting them and let you know they are up.... please feel free to copy them if you like. I took a picture of the house and it was not until a day or so later I noticed the weather vane being a fox. I have notr been that way in a while so I really need to get a better shot of it.

  3. Really graceful!
Sad to hear about the frenzy of drainage over there, it most likely will bring regret for generations to come...
    God bless you!

  12. This is a beautiful little flower, and I am looking for them around here too, with no luck yet. Why do they have to destroy our wet lands in favor of malls. It just doesn't make sense to me.

  19. Beautiful flowers. I didn't realize orchids grew that far north, I think of them as tropical plants, but then again I don't know much about flowers so it's nice to learn something new.

  27. It is so sad to see native habitat for flora and flora destroyed for the ever mounting greed of mankind. We are sealing the surface of the planet at a quite alarming rate.

Lovely slipper orchids. I do hope they survive.
