Parry Sound Station Gallery, Parry Sound, Ontario
Many of the old train stations have been moved or torn down, but this one built in 1907 has survived the decades but not as as it was originally intended as a Canadian Pacific Railway station.
In a former transformation it was a VIA Rail station for passengers traveling across all or part of Canada between 1978 and 1990.
Photo hanging inside the gallery
Then it lay dormant for 10 years before being reinvented as the Parry Sound Station Gallery.
Railway station now an art gallery
Since 2005 the tracks that pass by this gallery are used by all trains (Canadian Pacific Railway, Canadian National Railway and VIA Rail) heading west. And they travel over the viaduct I posted last week seen HERE.
FYI: Those heading easterly use the Canadian National tracks on the other side of town.

ReplyDeleteLove it when I see a rescue story! Neat place!
ReplyDeleteGreat looking Train Station, has such character!
ReplyDeleteHappy they found good use for the building. It looks charming.I don't often like pink on a house, but here it seems to work.
ReplyDeleteI so enjoyed this post! We have an old railway station nearby in White Rock, BC that's now an art gallery..your shots remind me of it. Photographing old building is always fun, isn't it?

Love old train stations.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Joe Todd, I love old train stations, too. And I love trains, as well. Interesting about the east- and westbound Via trains. Thanks.

It's a great building. I love the idea of repurposing an old station as an art gallery.
ReplyDeleteBy the way, Carletta identified the flowers on my blog as a Strawberry Fields plant (I knew it looked like strawberries!) or more officially a Gomphrena Haageana.

Lovely windows. It's a shame when the old buildings are torn down or turned into something else. This happens with many of our old Post Office buildings.
ReplyDeleteThey did a great job renovating the building. Looks beautiful.
ReplyDeleteI am for the preservation of old buildings. Great survival story.
ReplyDeleteGreat shots of the charming train station and interesting post. When I saw CPR in the title my first thought was it was a rescue station for people that had heart attacks.
ReplyDeleteglad they found some use for this building and did not tear it down.

ReplyDeleteThat's a beautiful old building. I'd love to take a ride on a steam train like the one in that photo.
ReplyDeletemy biggest regret is not taking the train across Canada.
ReplyDeleteIt's good to see that this train station has survived. The old station in our town has also survived and is now the visitor's center. Unfortunately there are no longer any trains going through our town.
ReplyDeleteWht a wonderful old building and great it's not been left in disuse.
ReplyDeleteWhat a great idea, turning this neat old building into a gallery.

What a lovely station.
ReplyDeleteThis so puts me in mind of a 2007 film with Patricia Clarkson called 'The Station Agent'. Delightful story about outsiders. Clarkson is a powerful actor. You owe it to yourself to see this film.
ReplyDeleteThose train stations were always built with so much care and the result was really lovely. It's great that this one is transformed into a gallery.
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing, have a nice week! :)
It is nice to see that such fine buildings are kept and that new uses are found for them.
ReplyDeleteYour photos are wonderful! I'll be back to see more... Thanks for visiting my blog.
ReplyDeleteI am so glad this station survived. So many don't as you mentioned. I find that most surviving stations are very interesting buildings. MB
ReplyDeletea trainstation. Well, I would have guessed. That´s one cool building with that chimney. :)
ReplyDeleteglad u liked my world, :)
preservation of old buildings is a good move. lovely building.
ReplyDeleteI love train stations...always wished I owned one. This looks to be a beauty!
ReplyDeleteIt is great to save these old Stations with history to them. Our town has an old station that was moved to a better site and modernized a little so it is able to cope with technology, and it looks so impressive, just like you old station does.
