Downy Woodpecker/ Camera Critters

Downy woodpecker eating shelled peanuts

Last Monday morning this male downy treated himself to peanuts in this feeder right outside my kitchen door.

And click HERE to see a photo of a hairy woodpecker eating peanuts at this same feeder in December.

To join in the fun, visit Misty Dawn at CAMERA CRITTERS.

  20. Very nice closeup! So what's the diff between a "downy woodpecker" and a "hairy woodpecker"?

The hairy one seemed to have longer claws.

Rainy season in Florida is usually the summertime when we often get afternoon showers. Which is nice 'cause it tends to cool things down.
