Downy woodpecker eating shelled peanuts
Last Monday morning this male downy treated himself to peanuts in this feeder right outside my kitchen door.
And click HERE to see a photo of a hairy woodpecker eating peanuts at this same feeder in December.

Very nice closeup! So what's the diff between a "downy woodpecker" and a "hairy woodpecker"?
ReplyDeleteThe hairy one seemed to have longer claws.
Rainy season in Florida is usually the summertime when we often get afternoon showers. Which is nice 'cause it tends to cool things down.
What a cool bird to have in your garden!
ReplyDeleteUtterly amazing. You are so very good at what you do.
ReplyDeleteRight outside your door! What a treat! Super photo.
