Killdeer, Hamilton, Ontario
Yesterday, on our way back from Upstate New York where we visited with family for a few days, I spotted this killdeer on the shore of Lake Ontario. They nest on the ground in shallow, usually in unlined depressions. This killdeer was trying to convince me that I had not found it's mate and nesting site....
Female and male killdeer

The two of them together is very sweet.

Killdeer are interesting. I try not to disturb them too much but watching them try and divert me is so fun.
ReplyDeleteI think you found it. Great photos of them. We have killdeer in our pasture every year. Once we found their nesting sight and put a little temporary fence around it so the horses wouldn't step on the eggs.
ReplyDeleteThey are sweet looking birds, great photos.
