Buffleheads II/ Camera Critters

 Female and male bufflehead ducks

This appears to have been my lucky week for seeing bufflehead ducks. Last Saturday I showed you a female HERE and today I have both males and a female.

Suddenly I realize that bufflehead males have green on their faces. Until now I'd thought they were simply black and white!

I wonder what she said to make him leave

OK, truth be told this is a different male from the one above.

Up, up and away!

This is the same male as in photo #2 but a couple of seconds later.

  10. Hello, EG. I'm also a big fan of these little ducks. They winter here in Astoria, Oregon, just outside my back door. You captured them nicely. Isn't that an amazing tail in flight?

  11. I'm so shallow: the first thing I thought when I saw the green on the male duck was,"I want a purse in that colour"

  20. I just love Buffleheads. There have been so mnay this winter in the harbor at Barcelona on Lake Erie. Each time we go, they are still there. I don't remember them being there so long, and mixed in with 100's of Mergansers.
    Nice shots EG.

  35. I'm not sure if we have Bufflehead ducks in our area but they are sure pretty. I like the emerald green on the male's head. Wonderful captures of him in flight. That water looks icy cold where he has it stirred up.
