Greater Scaups/World Bird/Nature Notes

 Male greater scaup duck

Ducks are migrating northwards, many making a stopover on the north side of Lake Ontario. This one was resting on the edge of some ice at a marina watching...

Male and female greater scaups

a few of it's relatives swimming and diving for aquatic treats. Soon they will move on to the Far North to breed.

  3. I love to hear the ducks quack and the geese flying in "V" formations high up in the sky.

After I was hacked I had to give up my old user name and the blogs that went with it. My Birds Blog was among the give-ups.

So this is the new birds blog and I hope you can come visit. Birds Birds Birds and Birds

  8. It must be nice to know what you are taking a picture of. I never do. Even my post today I didn't know until I got home and looked in my bird guide, and even then I've been known to be confused. Wonderful images.

  15. We watched "Frozen Planet" the other night (a BBC) production. It was incredible. Lots of birds. I was surprised to learn so many end up in the Arctic in the summer...maybe these were headed that way?

Re your question on Ocala: The horses were in the barn. When taking the picture I noticed a horse being saddled in the center area; I'd guess being readied for a ride.

  40. I see Greater Scaups on our lake occasionally during migration. I wish all of the migratory birds would stay, they are so beaugiful and interesting. But it is not to be, so I have to settle for the little that I get. Wonderful pictures, clear and well composed. Thank you for the treat ...
