Belted Kingfisher/Wild Birds

Belted kingfisher on utility wire above a creek

Don't you wonder what this belted kingfishe is looking at?

 A longer view

Is it wondering what that tangled mess is? Is it thinking "Silly humans"?

Flying off the wire

No, the bird is not showing us how to fish properly. It's tired of posing.

I am joining Stewart M's Wild Bird Wednesday HERE

  10. It's not surprising that a kingfisher is looking at some fishing line that some dumb fisherperson left hanging.

    :-)

  17. Great shots, loved the one in flight as I can never get that quite right. We have fishing lines in tangles at our local pond all the time :(

  28. Thats a nice combinations of images about fishing! I hate see fishing line left about (and I know that in this case I doubt the person could have removed it even if they had wanted to) - on some days I spend almost as much line collecting the stuff as I do fishing!

For once this is actually a species I've seen!

thanks for the visit to WBW - Stewart M

  31. Very cute. We have so many of these tangled fishing lines over our creek bridges.

  32. You make a good statement in pictures, here.

I can understand how sometimes a line breaks off into the water and is unretrievable. But it bugs me a lot, when I go fishing, and I have to clean up after somebody else who left their junk on the land. Now, if somebody isn't a "tree hugging" ecologist, that's their business, but the act of littering is always rude and shows a lack of respect and basic manners.

  33. Amazing shots. It's a shame that fisher folk do this kind of thing. We'd get crap all over at the lake.

  34. I love these shots of the belted kingfisher. I hear them more often than I see them. They have such a distinctive call but are so speedy and hard for me to photograph.

  35. Awesome shots! I have yet to get a good photo of a Kingfisher. Yours are wonderful!

  38. I see them at a couple different places, but they never remain still for me to get near enough for a shot.
