Waiting for a chickadee to land
Seven-year-old Mateo loves birds and already knows quite a bit about the behavior of certain wild birds such as chickadees and blue jays.
Chickadee weighing the pros and cons
And the chickadees in this particular wildlife area know a LOT about human behavior, living in hope that visitors have brought yummy treats. After all, almost everyone enjoys fast foods.
Chickadee taking a black oil sunflower seed
Mateo was patient and the chickadee decided this handful of seeds was worth going for.

Wusste ich gar nicht, dass sich die niedlichen Meisen von der Hand füttern lassen. Schlaue kleine Vögel...

I like your photos. Mateo is my kind of kid. I'm always leaving food for the animals.
ReplyDeleteLovely, painterly photos. I am imagining those blues and greens with a large paint brush slapping on thick oil paint. Then a more delicate touch for the hand.
ReplyDeleteMateo is one very patient kid and these are awesome shots. I bet he was just thrilled. B
ReplyDeleteSweet, sweet, sweet!
ReplyDeleteI love chickadees! They are so tame! I have photos of my older daughter feeding them.
ReplyDeletethis is so exciting.
ReplyDeleteGood! An adult nature lover/birder in the making!
ReplyDeleteI love seeing birds eating out of the hands of humans...it is a thrilling site to me.
ReplyDeleteThis is wonderful to see, a trusting bird, a young boy delighting in nature. Thanks for that midday uplift!
ReplyDeleteThat is so wonderful. And you were there to capture the moment. Fantastic!
ReplyDeleteThe day a chickadee sat on my hand is one of my best memories! Magic!
ReplyDeletei like when people are patient enough to please to birds!
ReplyDeletehow nice. :) Must be a nice feeling having them in your hand.
ReplyDeletewow! it reminds of that saying my mom used to say, "a bird in the hand is worth two in the bush".
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful photo essay. I can feel Mateo's joy!
ReplyDeleteHow wonderful!
ReplyDeleteIt is just adorable to see and hand the feed the birds. If I were Mateo I would be tickled pink to have the chickadee on my hand. Wonderful photos.
ReplyDeleteThat is so sweet.
ReplyDeleteAwww..how sweet they both are. Made me smile and I needed that today. Thank you for linking up to Nature Notes EG..Michelle
ReplyDeleteI love these shots. I have a friend who has managed to get chickadees to land in his hands at my house but not me. I don't have the patience. I even have trouble photographing them except in the winter when they come for food on my deck when we have snow. They bathe on my deck in the summer but they always sense me trying to photograph them before I get a shot and fly off. They use the nesting boxes at my house but go in and out so fast I rarely even get shots of them there.
ReplyDeleteAmazing!!!
