Great Blue Heron standing on old tire
This year I have seen many more great blue herons than I have ever seen before. I am sure you have seen many GBHs before...but what about GBHs standing on tires meant to keep boats from hitting a dock?
I'm not sure what this heron was thinking because it let me get closer and closer. It wasn't until I turned around to walk away that it...
Great blue heron in the air
decided to fly away.
I am joining Stewart M's Wild Bird Wednesday HERE
Well, we don't see any GBHs on this side of the Atlantic so I'm more than happy to see photos of them, especially when they're as splendid as this.
ReplyDeleteA fun shot. I love how they seem to stretch their legs out sooooo far!
ReplyDeleteThat's a great take off shot!
ReplyDeletewow on those dipped wings. what a great shot. the colors in the first one are amazing
ReplyDeleteWe have a lot of these fine birds, too. They tend to be rather skittish unless they are engrossed in fishing. Love the "in the air" shot. You were quick on the trigger.
ReplyDeleteRe your question about the Longhorn: No veggie dishes per se. Lois always gets a salad (they are good) and a plain sweet potato. I usually get the salmon which is always excellent!
He looks so serious!
ReplyDeleteWow, what great shots! He just wanted his picture taken :)
ReplyDeleteHe was posing for you. Love the take off!
ReplyDeletelove these sharp-eyed, sharp-billed birds. :)
ReplyDeleteGo west young lady! Lots - lots - of GBH's!
ReplyDeleteFabulous birds. Great shots!
ReplyDeleteNice clicking when he was flight. Just recently I have noticed their presents is beginning to increase in Frenchman's Bay. They are moving south and will remain as long as the food supply is good.
ReplyDeleteYour captures of the heron are perfect.
ReplyDeleteThey are so unlikely looking. I've noticed several have moved onto sandbars on the Arkansas River here in Tulsa.
ReplyDeleteI love seeing them here, though I've never been able to get a good shot (hm, maybe one day I'll get a real camera :) - yours are beautiful - love the in-air capture too!
ReplyDeleteFantastic shots of the great blue heron.
ReplyDeleteI have seen more this year too! Never on a tire though :) Love that you captured him in flight too!!
ReplyDeleteGreat photos! I do like this bird!
ReplyDeleteOne of my favorites! Beautiful photos! I've seen them stand on some odd things, but not a tire.
ReplyDeletea great *sea hog"! (I do not know if you use that word?) and it looks like one who takes care of things around him.. :))))
ReplyDeleteLovely photos! :)
Nice looking bird.
ReplyDeleteOh wow..I do not see these birds where we live...so great. Super pic.
ReplyDeleteI love Great Blue Herons and always enjoy seeing great photos like these!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful bird and great photos.
ReplyDeleteThey are amazing birds to watch.
ReplyDeletevery nice ~ I would die to get a capture like that.
ReplyDeleteIt is cool you were able to get close, great shots of the Gb Heron.
ReplyDeleteGreat shot of the flyaway! I love seeing these wonderful birds - you managed to get a good closeup!
ReplyDeleteI love 'em. We have one 'resident' great blue that we see each and every time we stop at one of our favorite birding trails....
ReplyDeleteThey're so neat to watch as they watch us, aren't they?
Silent Silhouettes
Great captures!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful captures!! Boom & Gary of the Vermilon River, Canada.
ReplyDeleteLove the photos of the heron!
ReplyDeleteI'm not sure, but I do not think we have this blue? I've only seen the grey one.
Greetings Pia in Sweden
They really are fantastic birds.
ReplyDeleteWe seem to be missing lots of wild birds around my home this year due to neighbors tying their barking dog in the back yard. I miss all the Herons feeding on the creek.
ReplyDeletelol, maybe it was disappointed that you left. :)
ReplyDeleteProbably a good thing you spooked him. He didn't need to be on that tire! Although that did make for a lovely shot!
ReplyDeleteI just finished read a lovely book that had a lot about marsh birds in it. I think this lovely fellow made an appearance in every chapter. She refferred to him as the steady and true resident of the marsh.
ReplyDeleteThey look so elegant, standing and flying.
ReplyDeleteHe looks quite regal sitting on the bumper tire. And I'm quite envious of your great flight shot....and that you turned around quick enough to get it.
ReplyDeletebeautiful captures!
ReplyDeleteWonderful shots...
