Whirlpool/Our World

 Poster of Whirlpool Aerocar

I did a post last January about the Whirlpool on the Niagara River HERE, but the photos were taken from the American side and the Aerocar was on the Canadian side.  A week ago, we visited the Whirlpool on the Canadian side of the Niagara River, and would you believe...

 Aerocar

the Aerocar was on the American side? Hmmmm.

Niagara River

From atop the gorge on the Canadian side, I could better see and photograph the end of the rapids where the Niagara Gorge abruptly turns 90° into a narrow channel.

A closeup of the rapids

Hikers at the bottom of the gorge on the American side

It's a long way down!

  5. That looks to be a spectacular ride over the falls. I could almost feel the water splash at my face in that close up photo. :)

  6. I saw the cars 60 years ago, and they were different than this. i was 8 then, but i don't remember them looking like this one. needless to day i screamed the house down when they tried to make me ride on it and mother had to stay on shore with me so then i cried because granddaddy might fall in the river.

  8. You are very brave and have a good head for heights to get such great photos.

  9. Now that I have a good camera, I want to get back to Niagara! I haven't been there in years... I don't remember seeing the aerocar at all. Were you brave enough to go on it? The "long way down" part would cause me some concerns.

  10. Your timing is just off, although you still managed to get some fun shots. Now you can have a game and see how many trips it takes to get on the same side as the whirlpool.

  12. I don’t think I could ride in this Aerocar as I would be too afraid to look down and would keep my eyes shut! I have never been to Niagara Falls but used to have a large poster at work on my cubicle wall showing the falls. During hectic times I used to keep looking at it and felt better. It must be a great place to take photos. Thanks for coming to my blog.

  13. Someday I hope my travels take me to the Falls. Too many people in the Aerocar for my comfort level.

  18. I've never seen that Aerocar before. It looks quite interesting but I think I might have to pass on a trip across the gorge that way. Too scary for me. lol Great photos!

  25. Ah... Funnily enough I'm not scared of heights but I'm scared of those things, though perhaps I'd do it for the sheer pleasure of the view!

  26. I don't recall seeing this when we visited several years ago.

  27. I learn something new every time I get on Our World!! I didn't know anything about an aerocar at the falls. Well, guess not... I've never been but how fortunate that you got to go.

  30. Wow! What a great way to see the falls! Too bad moving to the Canadian side didn't quite work out as you had hoped, but you still got some amazing shots! I have seen the falls three times and find them spectacular.

  32. That's just wrong about the Aerocar. I love the concept.

Great pics, it looked bright and sunny, a great day for taking photos.

    Maybe that hiker was geocaching?

  33. I have visited Niagara River and the falls a few years ago when I visited my Aunt in Niagara on the Lake. Her home backs onto the river. Great shots, looked like a nice sunny day that day.

  36. Have you done the aerocar before? That is the one attraction we haven't done yet. :)
I'd love to hike down the gorge. But do not love driving to the American side, esp with a car full of Germans. ;)

  38. When I was little, I heard someone say 'it scared me to death', but I didn't hear 'death'... I heard 'it scared me to deaf', so from then on I'd say it w/ 'deaf'... This is one of those 'it scared me to deaf' views! LoL! WoW! And, I'm already scared of heights, so it really would scare me to deaf! =)))

  40. "They" told me that the Canadian side of the Niagara Falls is prettier:) Great shots!

  41. No aerocar there the last time I visited... and I don't want to count how long ago that was. Tempus fugit. You were a victim of Murphy's Law... if something can go wrong, it will. I laugh, because I don't believe that for a second! Your photos make me want to visit Niagara Falls again one day. I tried this past summer, but it just couldn't be fit in to our schedule!
