Red-bellied woodpecker (Melaneries carolinus) on a fence post
Although red-bellied woodpeckers are common in the eastern U.S, I live just north of its range and so was very pleased to find a friendly one on the north shore of Lake Ontario.
Red-bellied woodpecker on a tree
This guy was wedging seeds and nuts underneath tree bark. I'm guessing it was saving treats to eat during the winter. Red-bellied woodpeckers also hide food in fences, which is exactly what it may have been doing in the first photo.
Camera Girl... I am amazed at all of nature photos you are posting. Keep on clicking.
ReplyDeleteYour bird photos are my favorites. You capture such detail.
