Great Gray Owl/Wild Bird

Great gray owl (Strix nebulosa) sitting atop a pine tree

Usually elusive, great gray owls hunt during the day, often perching among dense conifers, but here it is out in the open, easy to see. Their diet includes voles, squirrels and small birds.

Taking off

They are normally non-migratory, living in the north from Alaska  to northern Quebec in Canada. In the U.S., they live in a few northern states  from northern California to Minnesota.

I am joining Stewart M's Wild Bird Wednesday HERE
