Late Winter Beauty/Our World

Creek on a bright, sunny March morning

Some of my most favourite photos are taken this time of year when the air is crisp and clear. Soon most of the snow and ice will be gone and another kind of beauty will emerge.

Cattails and phragmites casting shadows

True the colours are not bright as in summer, but that's part of the challenge I love. And yes, it is sometimes very cold...but not always. Besides, you can dress for the cold, really you can!

Ice crystals on twig

And sometimes beautiful surprises float right into view.

  9. I must say I've never missed snow or ice. Especially on the roads. But they can be beautiful as you have shown. The ice crystals on a twig look like expensive jewelry.

  11. The sheer size of the ice formation is astonishing. Yikes! I don't think there is one article of clothing in my closet that could shield me from that kind of cold. ;) Beautiful pics!

  24. When I let myself truly appreciate winter I enjoy the subtle colors and textural contrasts that aren't visible in the same ways the rest of the year. The dried grasses and twigs can be beautiful. You've caught them here. And the ice crystals! You've taken it to a whole new level! Gorgeous!

  44. That floating ice is beautiful!

I had to smile when I read, "you can dress for the cold, really you can!"

Just today, I was putting on my gaiters that my husband gave me for Christmas, to head out into the deep snow.. They have a tag that says, "There's no such thing as bad weather, just bad clothing." :)

  45. I love the ice on that twig!!!

  46. I smiled about your comment that you can dress for the cold, because in my first year of graduate training (we all came from different places) the ones from the Northern regions held that you can dress for the cold, but not for the heat (I remember feeling drenched that whole first summer).
Now I avoid coming to Holl. in wintertime, because I feel miserable! It's what your body is used to:)

  47. What a wonderful surprise, for you and for us, the ice crystals on the twig floating into view!
