Gear for canoe trip, Kirkfield Lock Lift
I enjoy visiting the locks on the Trent-Severn Waterway to watch the boats be raised or lowered to a different level so crew members can continue on their journey on the canal system between Lakes Ontario and Huron.
A lot to pack here!
Usually the boats are powered by motors, not paddles, though. As you can see, I was on the other side of the canal with a zoom camera, my point-and-shoot. I was spying, trying to get candid shots.
Mom unpacking her camera to take a few photos
What I didn't realize until I got home was this family was completing a journey Mom and Pop started a few years ago - a trip by canoe across Canada.

As plain as the nose on my face! This canoeing family has a website!
What? Another crew member?
And the baby is not the only child along for the ride. Seems there's an almost four-year-old too.
Hope their journey is a fun and safe one!

Great series of canoeing photos! They are really serious about having fun or getting somewhere in a canoe!
ReplyDeleteNice candid shots. This is one crowded canoe.
ReplyDeleteNot sure I would want to canoe across anything with a baby! But they look like they are having a great time. Nice captures!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great adventure!
ReplyDeleteWow incredible shots. I am going to check out that site I can only imagine the things they will see. Those children are extremely lucky to acquire an adventurous soul so young. It looks like the parents know exactly what they are doing. Thank you. B
ReplyDeleteI can't imagine taking a baby on a trip like this. Wow.
ReplyDeleteI don't think I would enjoy that long of a canoe ride, but looks like fun.

ReplyDeleteoh, no wonder there was a ton of gear!
ReplyDeleteWhat an adventure! I used to love to go to the locks on the Mississippi where I grew up and watch the boats and barges go through. Sometimes I would be able to talk to the people on the boats and ask them about their journey. Great post!
ReplyDeleteNice how you put together the progression of information. I thought: wow, a lot of gear, oh they have a kid, no wonder, oh gee, across Canada? that explains it, wonder if they have a website, what, another kid!? I'll be looking into this. Thanks for sharing this discovery to us.
ReplyDeleteFantastic, EG. What a series. Are these people crazy? Holy ....! Gotta give 'em credit, though. That's one heck of a trip. I'm amazed they can get all that stuff into one canoe.
ReplyDeleteI love canoe trekking. We used to do a lot when our daughter was young. Now we just paddle around the cottage!
ReplyDeleteIt's great to see these pics after reading about their trip in the newspaper. You should send them a link to your post, EG.

ReplyDeleteWhat a fantastic journey for the whole family. :)
ReplyDeleteQ: Why did the family canoe across Canada?
ReplyDeleteA!: To get to the other side. A2: Because it was there.
That would be a nice pass time.
ReplyDeleteGreat shots!
What an adventurous family. Canoeing on a canal must be a wonderful way to see the countryside.
ReplyDeleteAn interesting story and a case of being in the right place snooping at the right time. I hope they get to complete their adventure.
