Snowy Owl (Bubo scandiacus)
Visiting from the Arctic, this female Snowy Owl was sitting quietly on a pier that juts out into Lake Ontario. Her mate (almost pure white) was further out on the pier. Snowy Owls are hardy! It was a bitter cold day and they just sat there in the wind. Not me! I soon left the pier to find a warmer spot.

ReplyDeleteYou are so lucky to have the Snowy Owls where you can walk out and take pictues. We did have a few in our area last year, but I was never able to make it over to Lake Michigan to see them. They only come down here when there is a scarcity of food in thier normal habitat. Your pictures are wonderful and remind me of our Owls ... how they sit on thier feet and puff out thier feathers to keep warm. Beautiful Pictures, EG. Thanks again for a year of shared photos and information that I have absorbed like a sponge ... Hope your New Year brings many wonderfully exciting experiences for you to capture on your camera ... along with good health and much joy :)
