Mother Goose

Canada Goose sitting on her nest

Apparently the snow last week has not affected the goose breeding season. Out for a walk in Newmarket, I discovered this soon-to-be Momma.

On a tiny island in Fairy Lake, Newmarket

She apparently felt safe as I was quite a distance away and had to zoom in a LOT with my point-and-shoot to get the closer photo.

Father Goose

As you can see, soon-to-be dad is monitoring the situation.
I am connecting to Stewart M's Wild Bird Wednesday HERE

  3. Great shots! Is that a bit of green I see in that last shot? We have a pair of geese nesting over by The Rez. I'm looking forward to some babies.

  6. Another sure sign that flowers and grass are coming...
I wonder if they are early, or the geese here are late...

  7. funny all the birds we have in Florida, but no geese. I had to make a business trip to Chicago to meet my first gaggle...they wouldn't give up the sidewalk during a run...attacked me like banshees. Thought I was going to die :)

  14. I'm sure that Father Goose would have bravely dealt with the situation had you come too close. I have been chased by a goose before and it's kind of scary.

  23. We have a pair of Canada geese that come to our pond every spring. They are such love birds. I love watching them gliding along side by side on the water. I have yet to see the little ones, though. Beautiful shot of mama goose.

  32. Well, the early bird get the worm and the early breeding goose probably gets the tastiest new grass.
