The marshes here are alive with red-winged blackbirds guarding their territories.

  3. Last week I saw a male Red-wing blackbird with no head feathers. I have heard of this happening to Cardinals but not to theses guys. I assume it is just a moulting process.

  16. I agree! She looks like she's up for a date. Love these birds. My eyes now begin to shift towards the Tricolored Blackbirds in California. I love blackbirds. This year we had beautiful views of the nesting Brewer's, Yellow-headed, and Red-winged. Great shots of the female. I always love beginning birders the first time they see the female....they don't believe that's she's a red-winged:) Happy birding!
