Mid September

Around a favourite birdwatching pond

Although fall is in the air, many wildflowers are still blooming here.

Largest square: bumble bee on bull thistle (Cirsium vulgare). Working clockwise: New England aster (Symphyotrichum novae-angliae),  wild lobelia (Lobelia  syphilitica), tickseed sunflower (Bidens aristosa), frost aster (Symphyotrichum pilosum)  and goldenrod (Solidago).

FYI: The reason I include botanical names is because they always stay the same but common names change from region to region.

Please visit Michelle at Rambling Woods for more NATURE NOTES.

  25. Lovely flowers, such a nice variety for fall. Bumblebees seem to really love thistles, the bees really go after my Cardoon flowers. I presently find myself dis-astered, some that bloomed for years all up and disappeared, and the ones I bought last year didn't seem to come back. I have some that I raised from seed so maybe they will bloom next year. I miss them in the fall, the lovely purple color.
