Monarch butterfly on dried Queen Anne's Lace
Yesterday I was surprised to see this Monarch out and about (I'd thought they'd all gone a while ago to Mexico!) and even more surprised to see it land on dried weeds. I guess maybe it was tired and needed to rest because for sure there was no nectr there.
Fall aster
But there's still some nectar in the area. Not a LOT, but SOME.
Wooly Bear caterpillar
This is my second Wooly Bear of the season. I spotted the first on my porch, the second here on a beach. I hope it knew it was far too cool for a swim.
Can you see the critter on the fluff. It's in danger of being blown away.

ReplyDeleteOh, these are such terrific shots, EG!! Love that wooly bear caterpillar!! But then I love all of your critters!! Enjoy your day!!
ReplyDeleteAll shots of nature - I haven't seen a caterpillar like that one but perhaps I don't look.
ReplyDeleteI especially like that milkweed shot.
ReplyDeleteThe Monarch Butterfly is wonderful, and the rest of them, fantastic.
ReplyDeleteLovely fall pictures. Maybe that little bug is hoping to get a ride to far off places on the milk weed.
ReplyDeleteThe butterfly is Fall colors! In fact, all of your wonderful pictures are beautiful and look like Fall. And not a pumpkin or leaf in sight, Wow! Gorgeous and unusual fall images.
ReplyDeleteWhat beautiful fall colors!
ReplyDeleteI especially love the asters. The are such a wonderful addition to the reds, oranges, and golds of fall.
A monarch! How wonderful! Love the wooly photos too.
ReplyDeleteI've seen a few monarch butterflies this fall, but fewer than in past years. They are always exciting to see. Great shot.
ReplyDeleteThey're wonderful pics. I spotted the little insect right away. Perhaps it will take a ride on one of the seeds.
ReplyDeleteI DO see and appreciate the critter on the fluff. . . . hm, maybe that should be the title of my autobiography?

Great pix for Nature's Notes....love the seeds from Milkweed ready for a gust of wind with that little traveler!...:)JP
ReplyDeletePretty photos. Last week when I was walking along the road I'm sure there were a hundred of the wooly bear caterpillars all over the place - on the road on the side in the dirt - just hurrying to get somewhere. There were also a lot of bodies that didn't make it and were run over. Seeing the Monarch is unusual this late so I hope it makes the trip safely.
ReplyDeleteI never saw any Monarchs at all this year and usually see plenty. I cant find any milkweed in the area either so that is probably why. Great pics again EG!
ReplyDeleteLove all the images.
ReplyDeleteInteresting to see the butterfly still in your area.
ReplyDeleteNice photos, especially of the butterfly.
