Yellow brick house
B is for BRICK
Brick is a common construction material in south-central Ontario. Although many of the older farmhouses here were made of yellow brick (the colour of the clay found in our area)...
Red brick house
some of the older homes are red.

Bricks are also made of concrete. The church's brick may be coloured concrete, which is much harder than clay.

South of the border (the Canadian border, that is), nineteenth-century builders must have found clay plentiful too.

I think brick is really lovely no matter what colour it is.
ReplyDeleteLove to look at different types of houses. I live the red bricks, although the yellow ones are great as well.

Around here yellow bricks are known as "Cambridge bricks" as they used to be made around here, elsewhere in Britain red brick is more common. Although our yellow brick looks very smart when new it seems to be more affected by pollution and soon weathers to a dirty grey. All the examples you've shown look very smart.
ReplyDeleteLovely series of images, EG! I tend to love the brick buildings more than others.. Have a happy day!
ReplyDeleteWonderful selection!

ReplyDeleteConcrete bricks? Who knew!
ReplyDeleteI like the brick, but I really love the windows you captured! I've never heard of concrete bricks..but I imagine they would be super strong.
ReplyDeleteI've always loved brick structures. Here, though, the brick is often a facade - over wood or plasterboard.
ReplyDeleteAnd I remember when we lived in Scottsdale some of the new houses were crumbling - they used Mexican brick which didn't stand up to the weather.
love the pictures

ReplyDeleteHi Tina,
ReplyDeleteWe lived in a 130 year old house once and we loved it. Brick can last forever.

Nicely photographed and presented!
Have a Beautiful Day.
Peace :)
Love this.
ReplyDeleteSomething I see every day ... and I admit I notice the beauty ... but don't pause to honor it. And not *only* the wonder of brick.
Thank you for this beautiful reminder!
I think brick is so beautiful. My Mother in her later years lived in a brownish brick house---it was very nice. The people she sold the house to covered the brick with wood and boy did it change the very appearance of the house. Weird!

ReplyDeleteBoth bricks are pretty in their own way. The windows are beautiful in the second picture! The church temple almost looks like a Jewish Temple, except for the triple crosses..
ReplyDeleteI don't think we have yellow bricks around here. Kind of unusual to me.
ReplyDeleteI have lived in many different areas in which various colored bricks are used. This is certainly and interesting post, and your photos, as always, are excellent!!
