Turkey standing on fence
Happy Thanksgiving to all my American visitors!!
Yep, wild turkeys CAN fly. In fact they roost in trees at night. This turkey flew to the top of this fence to get a better view...and perhaps find some bird seed left for chickadees and blue jays.
$67.31!!!
The above label translates to approximately $2.50 per pound. My sister-in-law in New York State bought her turkey for $.42 a pound...but I doubt it was a Butterball. Did you purchase a turkey and, if so, how much did you pay per pound?
But wait! For the next few weeks we in Canada can earn $1 towards our Christmas turkey for every $30 we spend at our local grocery store. To save for that $68 turkey all I have to spend is $2,040 or an average of $508 a week! Is that a deal or what?!!

Our (Minnesota favorite) Jennie-O grade A Turkeys were going for eighty-nine cents a lb with Cub Foods Coupon, while Target offered $1.19 lb for any Butterball 10 - 24 pound Premium turkeys! You'd never see me ever pay even fifty dollars for a turkey! I do like your turkey on a fence photo though....one of the lucky turkeys this year! (so far anyway)

I'll have the same drumstick! I have never heard of a turkey costing this much! Twelve pounds does not sound super huge, either. I love your perching turkey, I have never seen one perched on anything!!

ReplyDeleteMy friends and I spend Canadian Thanksgiving together. None of us are that crazy about turkey, so we have a roast instead.
Wow, what a deal! I haven't looked for a frozen turkey since I moved to New Zealand, but I imagine I'd have to go to a butcher to get one at all. Here, we can get a whole chicken or pieces but not a whole chicken cut up...strange, huh??

ReplyDeleteI have never paid that much for a turkey--EVER. But then again I have never bought a huge turkey. 10-11 pounds is plenty for all of us. There is so much other stuff to munch on.

I did know wild Turkeys could fly -- at least up to a tree for the night. We had a noisy flock in our neighborhood that travels through every now and then.

Funny post, EG! Great shot of the Turkey! I saw Butterball turkeys for sale in our local Giant food stores for $1.49 a pound.. Sometimes they can be found for .99 cents a lb.. if you spend $25.00 on other items.. I have not had a drumstick ice cream in ages..Have a happy day!

ReplyDeleteButterball here is 2.99 per pound at Walmart and the other turkeys are 49 cent per pound... the most i ever paid for a turkey was 20.00 and that was a 29 pound turkey... we don't like the butterball. we are eating out. we both love those drumstick ice creams

I was thinking of doing away with the turkey and having just veggies. Then I remember why some vegetarians are so unhappy. They eat too many "steamed" vegetables!

hehehe, I am cooking a chicken (my turkeys are always dry)!!! the chicken was 12 bucks unwashed and uncooked. I can get one at Costco for 5 bucks cleaned and cooked......it killed me BUT I wanted/needed for the dinner to be somewhat homemade and I wanted the house to smell good!!!

ReplyDeleteWe do not celebrate Thanksgiving in New Zealand, we do have turkey for Christmas sometimes always expensive but nice for a crowd.
As Glennis said, no Thanksgiving for us here and in this family none at Christmas either, we are ham lovers. Yes, that is expensive, too. They see us coming at Christmas, don't they?

ReplyDeleteI am obviously not too much of a country girl! I came across while hiking my first wild turkey this year. I was eww that is a turkey?! Visual I did not need - ugly things they are! Oh the price of turkey, chicken, beef - yup all rising. Since the dogs are on home cooked food, I really am feeling it.

ReplyDeleteI went to a delicious buffet at my country club, for the very reasonable price of $35 per person. I went home stuffed and telling myself that next year I need to exercise some self control.
