Happy Thanksgiving!

 Turkey standing on fence

Happy Thanksgiving to all my American visitors!!

Yep, wild turkeys CAN fly. In fact they roost in trees at night.  This turkey flew to the top of this fence to get a better view...and perhaps find some bird seed left for chickadees and blue jays.

$67.31!!!

The above label translates to approximately $2.50 per pound. My sister-in-law in New York State bought her turkey for $.42 a pound...but I doubt it was a Butterball.  Did you purchase a turkey and, if so, how much did you pay per pound?

But wait! For the next few weeks we in Canada can earn $1 towards our Christmas turkey for every $30 we spend at our local grocery store. To save for that $68 turkey all I have to spend is $2,040 or an average of $508 a week!  Is that a deal or what?!!

Pass me a Drumstick, please.

I am linking to Good Fences HERE.

  4. Ya they can fly is that what you call it. Pretty much to a tree branch is about it. Pass the cranberry sauce, please.

  8. Wow, forty-two cents, that's a deal! Our (Minnesota favorite) Jennie-O grade A Turkeys were going for eighty-nine cents a lb with Cub Foods Coupon, while Target offered $1.19 lb for any Butterball 10 - 24 pound Premium turkeys! You'd never see me ever pay even fifty dollars for a turkey! I do like your turkey on a fence photo though....one of the lucky turkeys this year! (so far anyway)

  12. I'll have the same drumstick! I have never heard of a turkey costing this much! Twelve pounds does not sound super huge, either. I love your perching turkey, I have never seen one perched on anything!!

  13. Haha. That's a crazy price for a turkey!! Who thought that up?? I'm sure people will fall for it too. I think I'd prefer the drumstick ice creme treat too. That's a great picture of the turkey on the fence. So pretty in the snow.

  18. I like that wild turkey shot!

My friends and I spend Canadian Thanksgiving together. None of us are that crazy about turkey, so we have a roast instead.

  19. Wow, what a deal! I haven't looked for a frozen turkey since I moved to New Zealand, but I imagine I'd have to go to a butcher to get one at all. Here, we can get a whole chicken or pieces but not a whole chicken cut up...strange, huh??

  20. Happy thanks giving and have a wonderful day. :)

  22. Oh I love Drumstick Ice Cream. Now I am going to have that on my mind all night.

  23. I have never paid that much for a turkey--EVER. But then again I have never bought a huge turkey. 10-11 pounds is plenty for all of us. There is so much other stuff to munch on.
But I will have that drumstick. Ice Cream over Turkey any day. MB

  24. I did know wild Turkeys could fly -- at least up to a tree for the night. We had a noisy flock in our neighborhood that travels through every now and then.
But I did not know there would be math! LOL
Haven't bought my Christmas Turkey yet -- but hopefully it won't be that much!

  25. oh dear - is that turkey thanksgiving or Christmas lunch? My Aunt used to grow turkeys for sale around Christmas. Good to see you like Aussie Drumsticks!
Happy thanksgiving. Pass another piece of turkey please, and thank you for stopping by my blog this week.

  26. Interesting picture - the Foodlands where the butter ball is from has almost the same location name as where I live! Small world.

  27. I need to order a turkey for Christmas so I'll soon find out how expensive they are over here. Enjoyed this fun post!

  28. Ohhh, remind me to write about the turkey in love!
We got a turkey for free this year, courtesy of the kidling's work but I'd still rather have your kind of drumstick. Pretty please?

  29. Funny post, EG! Great shot of the Turkey! I saw Butterball turkeys for sale in our local Giant food stores for $1.49 a pound.. Sometimes they can be found for .99 cents a lb.. if you spend $25.00 on other items.. I have not had a drumstick ice cream in ages..Have a happy day!

  30. What a fun post, it did make my laugh. HAPPY THANKSGIVING.

  31. Butterball here is 2.99 per pound at Walmart and the other turkeys are 49 cent per pound... the most i ever paid for a turkey was 20.00 and that was a 29 pound turkey... we don't like the butterball. we are eating out. we both love those drumstick ice creams

  32. Clever you with the drumsticks. We are going to a potluck and didn't buy the turkey so I have no idea what they cost. Your example seems pretty expensive.

  33. I love that image of the turkey on the fence!!! I will not be buying a turkey, because that would mean too many leftovers for husband and I, even if we share with the dog...
My Mom used to buy a 25 pound bird, to have enough for everyone, for two meals.

  34. I love your wild turkey shots!
I got a turkey for free! The supermarket deal for a week, spend one hundred dollars or more, get a free turkey. Such a deal!

  35. I was thinking of doing away with the turkey and having just veggies. Then I remember why some vegetarians are so unhappy. They eat too many "steamed" vegetables!

So, it's back to turkey. As I recall, Butterball is under $2 a pound but that is all I recall.

    I'll take Nestle's Drumstick anytime!

  36. Ha! Very fun post! Love that turkey photo.

    Happy Thanksgiving :)

  38. hehehe, I am cooking a chicken (my turkeys are always dry)!!! the chicken was 12 bucks unwashed and uncooked. I can get one at Costco for 5 bucks cleaned and cooked......it killed me BUT I wanted/needed for the dinner to be somewhat homemade and I wanted the house to smell good!!!

    awesome image of the turkey!!!!

  39. You reminded me of the classic WKRP episode about the flying turkeys too. This was a great post, EG!

  40. Great shot of the Wild Turkey on the fence. Oh my stars I would so not pay that much for a turkey. We bought a store brand for .69 a pound.

  41. My sister made one for us, so I don't know how much it cost. She brined it overnight and cooked it in a bag, it came out perfect!

Love seeing the wild ones. They're almost like a different species.

  42. I shall have the ice cream drum stick thanks.
We do not celebrate Thanksgiving in New Zealand, we do have turkey for Christmas sometimes always expensive but nice for a crowd.

    ReplyDelete
  43. As Glennis said, no Thanksgiving for us here and in this family none at Christmas either, we are ham lovers. Yes, that is expensive, too. They see us coming at Christmas, don't they?

    ReplyDelete
  44. Wow! That's big $$$. But I have to say, the butterballs are tasty. I also think honeysuckle is good. No turkey in Germany this year though.

    ReplyDelete
  45. I don't know if you remember. I bought the smallest turkey our local store had. It was HUGE!
I love all the people who produce our food around here. It's so important to shop locally!

  46. Makes me glad I'm a vegetarian! Great shot of the wild turkey.

  47. I am obviously not too much of a country girl! I came across while hiking my first wild turkey this year. I was eww that is a turkey?! Visual I did not need - ugly things they are! Oh the price of turkey, chicken, beef - yup all rising. Since the dogs are on home cooked food, I really am feeling it.

    ReplyDelete
  48. Ha! That's Frank's kind of drumstick too. I hadn't looked at the turkey prices yet but I have been saving my Foodland turkey bucks. I have $10 worth. ;)

  49. Love the turkey on the fence image.

  50. I went to a delicious buffet at my country club, for the very reasonable price of $35 per person. I went home stuffed and telling myself that next year I need to exercise some self control.

    ReplyDelete
  51. yes, they can fly. But not too high. One collided with the windshield of my car a few years ago!

  52. A grocery near me gave you a free one if you spent $50 in their meat department. I grew 12 and gave them to deserving families.
