Golden-crowned Kinglet (Regulus satrapa)
Here you can see clearly how this bird got its name. A few Golden-crowned Kinglets have arrived from the Far North to spend the winter here just north of Lake Ontario. Many more will travel southward to spend the cold months in the U.S. AND a few live here all year round. So you'd think I'd see these tiny songbirds all the time.
Well maybe I do and maybe I don't. They usually flit about so quickly that who knows what bird I'm seeing?
Resting for a second on a branch
This kinglet was more accommodating than most I've seen. At least he sat still long enough to get a good photo of his feathers. Sadly I did not get a great shot of his eye though. I guess I'll have to go back and try again!
I am connecting to Stewart M's Wild Bird Wednesday HERE
so cute all fluffed up like that.. i like his colors, bright and happy yellow
ReplyDeleteI hope you do get a chance to get more pictures of this beautiful bird. These are wonderful in their detail.
ReplyDeleteWow, what a beauty. That's one I have never seen before.
ReplyDeleteDid you glue it's feet to make him sit for you? Like that top view of the crown... does it sit unsteady on the king?
ReplyDeletewow! you did great! these guys move so quickly, usually!
ReplyDeleteWhat a pretty bird! Great photos, as always.

ReplyDeleteHow frail and cute he's looking!
ReplyDeleteHe is beautiful! I have never seen one around here. In fact, I don't think I have EVER seen one! He is posing so prettily for you!
ReplyDeleteI've never seen one before but what a cutie he is! It is probably one of those birds that you hear but can't spot in the tree.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful photos of a pretty bird! I like how it seems you're in the tree with it.
ReplyDeleteSo, so cute. Definitely not a bird we get around my way. More's the pity.
ReplyDeleteVery similar to our Firecrest, usually a very active and difficult species to photograph. Excellent captures .. well done.
ReplyDeleteGreat photo of a beautiful bird with an especially beautiful crown on top of its head.
ReplyDeleteOh well done, especially capturing the 'crown'!
ReplyDeleteThis bird is so like our Goldcrest both is looks as well as character adn quickness. The other day I was out with my bird group adn we saw several in conifer trees however they were so quick that there was no way I could get a photo at all. You did well to get those shots at all.
ReplyDeleteExactly, it's not like their waiting around for a photo op. :-)
ReplyDeleteThat is quite a crown!
ReplyDeleteYou may not have gotten the eye,but he certainly wanted to show you that crown of his.
ReplyDeleteCute and chubby.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful!
ReplyDeleteYou got great shots of this little sweetheart of a bird. Other birders have pointed them out to me, but I've never even seen that golden crown that clearly, let alone get a picture of it.
ReplyDeleteExcellent job.
Beautiful plumage of this bird, has nice coloring. Great shots!
ReplyDeleteNow that's the best photo of a kinglet's golden crown that I've ever seen!
ReplyDeleteAn excellent capture of the gold crown in particular. I am your FAN! Love your excellent photos

Lovely shots, Tina. The kinglets have beautiful coloring.
ReplyDeleteSo cute! These are excellent shots.
ReplyDeleteI'm impressed with the angle of the first shot! It looks like you were just waiting for this bird, up in the tree.
ReplyDeleteIf he moves as fast as the Ruby-crowned, then you had your work cut out for you. This is a beautiful bird and great photo!
ReplyDeleteNice shots of this cute little bird. Yellow birds are so cheery looking.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful pictures of a great bird.
