Above hardware store, Sunderland
I'm not sure how old this brickwork is but some of the buildings on this street were built at the end of the 1800s and this looks about the same age - not old by world standards but ancient by Canadian ones.

Excellent work on architecture and brick construction! Well captured and framed in detail
ReplyDeleteGood to see the old build is still used to commerce
I like theses old (Canadian standards) buildings. The trades men showed off their talent with all the details they put into it.
ReplyDeleteI really like the intricate brick work.

It's a lovely old building EG, I can relate to the age thing, we're a little short on years here in Perth also :) doesn't stop us appreciating the beautiful architecture we have oui!
ReplyDeleteBuilding deserve to be preserved if for the brickwork alone.
ReplyDeleteLove the brickwork, a beautiful building.. Great shots, enjoy your day!
ReplyDeleteThis style of brickwork is very fancy. We don't see much brickwork of any kind anymore.
ReplyDeleteSo glad the brick has been well-maintained. Love the different patterns.
ReplyDeleteAmazing architecture!
ReplyDeleteMighty fancy brickwork, they don't build them like that today. Tom The Backroads Traveller
ReplyDeleteI like the intricate patterns! Brick holds up beautifully over time and seems to look better with age.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful brick details. Great post for old stuff.

That really is beautiful old brickwork! A lot of nice old buildings in southern Ontario date from 1870 to 1900. The downtowns of most rural towns were built then.
ReplyDeleteSo different than what is built around here today although it does remind me of buildings in old Colorado towns, like Leadville.
ReplyDeleteRe your comment about Xmas decorations: I can understand why they're left up in Canada - it's too darn cold to get out and put them away, but here??? :)
beautiful old architecture adn it is old by our standards to.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful detail!
ReplyDeletethat is just beautiful old craftsmanship. They certainly don't make them like that anymore.
ReplyDeleteWell, it certainly looks to have weathered some weather. LOVE brickwork.
ReplyDeleteOld brickwork makes great subject matter. Your photos are excellent. Also, the farmer's field in previous post. Getting back to bricks ... They make such a beautiful exterior. I don't see much construction using bricks these days and guess it's the cost ... I hope there is enough work out there to keep the art of bricklaying alive. Wishing you a good week ahead. John
ReplyDeleteI am fascinated by brickwork, and this is a really fine example of it!
ReplyDeleteI love old buildings. They really cared about the artistry back then.
ReplyDeletepretty and complex! most folks probably don't even notice it.
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely building! The brickwork is amazing.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful! They just don't build buildings like they used to, which is a darn shame!
ReplyDeleteLove the brickwork, well taken.
ReplyDeleteDon't you wish they still built like that today?
ReplyDeleteBeautiful! One doesn't see brickwork like this any more!! Terrific captures for the day! Hope your week is off to a great start!!
ReplyDeleteThis is a very attractive building with great details in the brickwork. The two tones of brick are interesting too.
ReplyDeleteArchitecture was so much more beautiful back then. Lovely captures.
ReplyDeleteIt's lovely to see the time and effort they put into buildings in the old days. That work required very skilled workers who would be difficult to find today!
ReplyDeleteStunning! So much nicer than some of the stuff they slap together these days.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful brickwork~ And yes, sometimes I look at a blog from India or elsewhere and think 'yup we really are the New World here!" (Especially the western states in the US where we spent most of our life~)
ReplyDeleteOh yes, this is lovely brickwork, very impressive!
ReplyDeleteVery pretty!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful work the older tradesmen did. Old by New World standards and still standing. Nice shots. MB
ReplyDeleteThis is very very fancy brickwork! People used to take such pride in their work. I guess all of that is gone with the wind now. Just build things fast and simple.
ReplyDeleteDoes anybody still use bricks in such a delightful way?
ReplyDeleteVery similar to work seen in the US East Coast cities: Philly, Baltimore, NYC
ReplyDeleteNicely shown

Today I feel like old brickwork.
ReplyDeleteI like brick buildings. This one I would guess would be a gov't building at one time.
ReplyDeleteWorth a Thousand Words
Wow! That is some neat workmanship!
ReplyDeleteThat is one gorgeous looking building. I absolutely love the brick work.
ReplyDeleteI often wonder who could look at these old buildings and then proceed to build the modern looking ones with no character? Yet, I guess they have character for others. Anyway, love these...
ReplyDeleteBrickwork - especially the old stuff - isn't common in San Francisco where I'm from. It doesn't hold up in earthquakes. But it's so nice to see something that shows so much skill. Most "brickwork" I see these days is a veneer applied to paneling.
ReplyDeleteLove the brickwork and the details around the windows.
ReplyDeleteTina,
ReplyDeleteThese buildings look so pretty with the blue skies in the background. Great photos!
Have a Beautiful Day!
Peace :)
That is some intricate brickwork. It looks like it has been fairly well maintained over time.
ReplyDeleteJust gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteSuch a gorgeous old building! So artfully crafted. Really nice shots!
ReplyDeleteExcellent color compositions and designs. Terrific captures.
ReplyDeletebeautiful isn't it?!
ReplyDeleteI so admire the talent of the masons from these days. That herringbone pattern in the center of the building is magnificent!
ReplyDeleteSo much time was taken to produce a work of art that still looks good 200 years later.
ReplyDeletethat is a very beautiful building. I like the craftmanship in the old brickwork.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful and you have captured it so well. Things are just not made like they used to be.
