Snowy Owl

There seem to be quite a few Snowy Owls in our area again this year and this one wanted a grand view where it could feel safe. For quite a while it sat fairly still, moving only it's head. Then it stood up....

Flying off to capture something tasty

and flew down into the plowed field below.

  3. We had a Snow Owl here in the Washington, D.C. area for a while. But it's believed he's moved on. No doubt he could find better snow elsewhere. :-)

  13. Oh my goodness. These couldn't be sny better! So crisp, clear and in mid action. I must look up where to find them here. We tred last yr but had no luck. Know of sny good depots in Durham?

  34. These are fantastic, EG! I wish I could see an owl but haven't yet. I have seen 2 Redtailed Hawks flying around downtown today - probably looking for a pigeon.

  36. Oh my gosh, he is beautiful!! And you managed to capture both sitting and flight, each one is glorious! We have seen one only once, many years ago. But it never flew.

  59. Gorgeous owl, it has such a look of power on its face. The black and white feathers on it's chest look like a vest. I've only seem the white wings of an owl flying by at night from the car, your shots are amazing!
