Ice and reflections in the river
1. Spring Equinox 2015 happens today - 6:45 EDT. So now it's official: spring in the Northern Hemisphere. FYI: I'm not putting away my winter duds quite yet and I still have gloves stuffed in my coat pockets.
2. Or does spring actually begin today? Not according to most meteorologists! They say North American spring started on March 1st. To them the three warmest months are called summer, the three coldest are winter and those in between are spring (here March 1 to May 31) and autumn (here September 1 to November 30). Meanwhile since March 1st in Australia and New Zealand, it has been autumn.

3. Although I love spring and flowers, I'm not quite ready to let go of winter yet - I haven't yet had my fill of making photos of ice and icicles.
4. I AM looking forward to not wearing gloves when I'm making photos, though.
5. It's maple syrup season here north of Toronto, when daytime highs are above freezing but the nights are still below. Sweet, don't you think?

Brrrr. Still, you can make even snow and ice entrancing, and I enjoyed your Random 5 tremendously!
ReplyDeleteEnjoyed reading your random 5 and loved all your photographs.
ReplyDeleteOnly in Canada could people be thinking of Spring when there's still snow on the ground and ice on the water. Meteorologists only divide up the year in this way so that they can quickly and easily work out seasonal variations by simply totting up their monthly figures.
ReplyDeleteLove your photos, especially the
ReplyDeleteone with the icicle.
I can understand that you want to
take more photos of the ice, it is
simply beautiful :)
But here is no ice, spring is here
in real and the sun is just coming
back out from behind the moon :)
Have a beautiful day

I think Spring is taking it's sweet time arriving this year. Seen lots of pails hanging from trees collecting the maple sap.
ReplyDeleteNot sure I'm ready to give up seeing your icicles either. I do like spring though.

Not the kind of spring I would imagine but wonderful shots!
ReplyDeleteCalender Spring and real spring have unfortunately always been two different things :) Great images!!

i feel the same way about a calendar telling us when spring begins as i do telling us when to change our clocks to another time... we know spring is here when we see the signs, and it looks like you are seeing some signs up there..
ReplyDeleteI admire you and your freezing cold pics. I don't know how you do it.
ReplyDeletei hope you get gloveless weather aplenty, then. :)
ReplyDeleteA farm down the road is tapping their maple trees too...love maple season but oh it is cold. Nature is showing signs of spring with the red winged blackbirds and deer whose coat is changing already...but the weather is definitely late Feb weather.
ReplyDeleteSuch nice shots!!
ReplyDeleteI do love your snowy pics, although I have to admit that I enjoyed our mild winter and I am enjoying our early spring. But I do miss the snowy winters we had in Montana during the years that we lived there. These days I can totally enjoy the snow through your beautiful and amazing captures!! Thanks as always for sharing the beauty!! Have a great weekend!
ReplyDeleteMeteorologists are the only profession in the world where you can be wrong 95% of the time and still keep your job!
ReplyDeleteVery pretty shots, EG!
I like the effect of icicles first picture.
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed the rest very much.
I don't think the North American version of spring starting Mar. 1 works for most of us, especially this year on the east coast. Haha. It is a lovely day here though but NS and parts of NB are in for more snow tomorrow into Sunday. I like your icy pictures and I'm sure you'll get a few more before the snow and ice are gone. Our maple syrup season is very slow this year as we haven't had the above freezing daytime temperatures yet. :( Enjoy your spring weekend.
ReplyDeleteAh lovely views! Funny thing it's the first official day of spring, and our temperatures dropped! We had 60's and 70's on Sunday and a wintry chill this week. Oh well.
ReplyDeleteYeah..it is still cold in Manitoba too...-6 C right now....(but can't complain since most of the snow is gone)
ReplyDeletelovely photos...I especially like the last very abstracty one!
superbe !
ReplyDeleteThe maple tree beside my garage was dripping sap on my car yesterday and I thought "it is spring!". I still have lots of snowy shots left.
ReplyDeleteI have to admit I've enjoyed seeing your winter pics since we don't get ice, snow here. I have the AC on --- getting rid of the humidity mostly. Spring ... who knew??? !!!!!
ReplyDeletenice! bet you're glad spring is on it's way :-)
ReplyDeletewhat a beautiful spring's pictures...
ReplyDeleteNot really how I imagine spring, but I know our climates are quite different... Excellent shots, by the way!
ReplyDeleteAt least , this time of the year makes you think a lot ! I like your winter pictures , they're so beautiful, and I'm glad that your spring is still colder than mine :o)
ReplyDeleteI like your second photo
ReplyDeleteThe last picture is my favorite, and it is like modern art. Love the faraway Coot! Now it makes me wonder why seniors are called Old Coots!
ReplyDeleteWhenever it arrives I think Spring is the most welcome of the seasons. But your wintry photos are wonderful and show how beautiful winter can be.
ReplyDeleteThe maple buckets are out around here too. Sweet! I love it. And I love your ice photos. Spring will come soon enough.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful captures, "E.G." I so enjoy the opportunities that photo blogging provides for us to "visit" other parts of the world! Happy weekend.
ReplyDeleteSuper shots. I'm still wearing a hat and gloves!!
ReplyDeleteLove your ice and icicles pictures, try and squeeze a few more in before they disappear
ReplyDeleteWhat a great series of icy scenes in your part of the world!
ReplyDeleteI bought a pair of gloves in the USA that have special fingertips that allow you to use touch screens. They work very well with my camera. Let me know if you'd like to know the manufacturer!
Cheers,
Merisi
I'm surprised you're not ready for spring yet! You must be the only one.
ReplyDeleteLove the breaking ice images. Is that water as fresh as it looks
ReplyDeleteThe calendar now says its spring.I only hope the temperatures will agree. Great pictures.
ReplyDeleteI remember when I lived in Montreal, every spring we'd go to a Sugaring Off party. The best part was pouring maple syrup on everything that was on the plate. Yum! And the hot syrup poured on snow to made taffee. Lovely images! Hopefully the weather will get warmer for you and not having to wear gloves anymore.
ReplyDeleteI love how the ice looks like crystals in the second shot.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful photos. When I went north for the holidays, the winter was mild. It was not until Feb that they started getting winter again.
ReplyDeleteThat is a good news that spring has sprung back.
ReplyDeleteGoofy meteorologists! :-)
ReplyDeleteLoved your photos! Hope you can make them without gloves soon, too!
I have to say, I follow the sun/daylight hours for my definition of spring. Happy spring!
ReplyDeleteI imagine you're going to make the most of them until they last, for my great enjoyment! :-)
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely stunning image of icicles. Great start of spring.
ReplyDeleteI've taken enough snow pictures, I'm ready for spring flowers. ;) Just when one thinks it's safe to remove gloves from pockets, boom! I thought the season changes were linked to the equinoxes, until a blogger in Australia mentioned fall began the first of the month.
ReplyDeleteBrrrr. Still looks pretty chilly!
