Wooden carving, Palmerston
V is for VERTICAL
I believe the carving is of a train conductor. His left hand is on his watch as if it's almost time for the train to leave the station. (Doesn't he look cold?) He's standing close to an old locomotive on display in a town park.
Country mailboxes
The "bird" is standing vertically waiting for the mail to arrive.
Vertical Toronto as seen from a city park

The poor statue in the first photo definitely looks like it's cold!
ReplyDeleteI wonder what the mail delivery people think about mailboxes like this one. :-)
ReplyDeleteCool, I love the wood carving and the mailbox is cute.. Pretty view of the skyscraper.. Have a happy day!
ReplyDeleteThat's a fun set of photos. My first reaction to #1 is that the guy was shivering from the cold. Mail boxes can be very creative - except in some subdivisions like ours which insist on uniformity. Toronto goes up and and around and up and rectangular. Whatever, Toronto is way up there!
ReplyDeletethat mail box is fun; hope it's still there after the winter and the snow plows!!
ReplyDeleteMy first thought. He seems shrunken up with the cold!
ReplyDeleteThat train conductor has been waiting a long time for the train to arrive! I think some kind soul should find him a coat.
ReplyDeleteGreat shots! I especially love the "train conductor". That reminds me of my father who was one.....
ReplyDeleteHe does for sure look cold - and I LOVE that bird!
ReplyDeleteThe wood sculpture and the mailbox bird are great! The Toronto skyline towers are amazing. I don't know if I'd want to live or work way up there though.
ReplyDeleteThe statue got my attention … he looks as if he has been standing there forever and yet he maintains his perfectly straight posture.
ReplyDeletehe looks cold and destitute! :)
ReplyDeleteLOVE the mailbox! so clever!
I like them all, but the mailboxes are really something out of the ordinary!
ReplyDeleteI think I prefer the Palmerston area to Toronto! My paternal grandparents had a home up in Palmerston, before I was born.
ReplyDeleteOh, he does look SO cold!! Great mailboxes -- well, they're all great shots for the day as always and, as always, they're a perfect start for my day!! Hope you have a beautiful one!! Enjoy!!
ReplyDeleteEnjoyed the V for Vertical photos. Hard to believe that mailbox ... wonder if postal carrier actually leaves mail in the clip? ... I guess so, but what if it's raining? :-) Also enjoyed the snow geese (previous post). Nice work all around.
ReplyDeletethe vertical guy looks both old and cold and I really like him a lot. and that mail box is a hoot
ReplyDeleteI especially like the train conductor carving, and yes he does look cold!
ReplyDeleteLooks like all that snow is about to bring tears to the old guy.
ReplyDeleteI like those mail boxes ! I often pictue them here too .
ReplyDeleteYes , this "man" looks like he's very cold ! :o)
The conductor does indeed look cold - hope he is enjoying today's sun!
ReplyDeleteWow! I love these buildings. And the tall bird mailbox, that is so fun!! The wooden man looks cold and miserable! He should have his own train car to warm up in.
ReplyDeleteEveryone's already been here before me with the freezing man comments! Love that building!
ReplyDeleteThat train conductor does look cold! Nice "vertical" examples.
ReplyDeleteOhhh ... I like your interpretation of "vertical"
ReplyDeleteGreat captures! I adore that cute man, and that mailbox is too cool, I'd have it myself out here in the country!
ReplyDeleteVertical it is for sure.
ReplyDeleteRegarding the sunny day and the sun dress: it was a nice day and Ella did start out with a sweater on and we did a lot of walking so off came the sweater. That was the last nice day until today and last night was snow on the surrounding hills but today it is sunny again and the rest of the week is supposed to be spring warm.

Love the wood carving and great photos and creative idea for V !
ReplyDeleteHappy Weekend coming to you,
artmusedog and carol
The bird mailbox is sweet! And that carving is stunning. I so love wood carvings.
ReplyDeleteThe train conducter does look cold...love the country mailbox shot. And vertical Toronto does look interesting.
ReplyDeleteHe must be freezing, look at all that snow ;)
ReplyDeleteImpressive high-rise.
ReplyDeleteCool series of photos. I really like the creativity of the mailboxes.
ReplyDeleteI like the conductor. Looks like he has weathered a lot. I believe one, the one with the box number or house number is a mail box and the other is the people's decoration so that the mail carrier and travelers will smile.
ReplyDelete..
Standing Ovation!

I like them all!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful statue.
ReplyDeleteCutten thing in wood is so nice. And the mailbox is so funny, could thing about one by myself.
ReplyDeletePlaces for a lot of people in Toronto.
Very cool shots! I love that country mailbox!
ReplyDeleteEnjoyed your verticals. I wonder who carved the train conductor.
ReplyDeleteDarla
Love that fun mail box bird!! And, yes, the train conductor does look cold -- perhaps he's checking his watch for how much longer he'll have to wait before getting warm inside his train!
ReplyDeletegreat post! love the train conductor - time keeper...
ReplyDeleteWhat an interesting mailbox! I think the poor wood statue looks cold too.
ReplyDeleteVery interesting subjects to define...
ReplyDeleteVery cool share! SOmeone who lives close by has a huge hand carved bear in their yard! I must remember to snap a photo when I drive by! Thanks for sharing this awesomeness and have a great weekend!
ReplyDeleteThat bird is adorable! Love the statue too. Not sure I could handle living in a city like that.
ReplyDeleteThat statute is quite something, like your vertical themed images!
ReplyDeleteCool, creative post for the letter V. I like that bird-like mailbox.
ReplyDeleteThe statue is cute. Looks like it is shivering in cold. :)
