Mountain Bluebird

Female Mountain Bluebird (Sialia Currucoides)

This little female has created quite a stir in the southern Ontario birding community. She's rare here. In fact, it is said there has never been a Mountain Bluebird recorded here in this part of Ontario and this year there are TWO - one somewhere near Ottawa. Crazy weather patterns blew them off course, the pundits say.

Lovely from the back

So far this one has been finding plenty to eat so we'll see how long she stays here.

I am connecting to Stewart M's Wild Bird Wednesday HERE

  7. Well, that's impressive. You could preside over your local Audubon Society. I also think you should work on your coffee table book of Ontario birds!

  8. what a find for you! We have lots of blue pinion jays that fly about 10 or 15 feet above the ground in large flocks among the pinion pines. I've always enjoyed watching them.

  17. You've recorded this visitor beautifully. I've seen male mountain bluebirds and been thrilled. I think it takes a good eye to identify the female and what a pleasure it is to see her! Those tail feathers are beautiful. (We had a northern shrike in our backyard the other day, a first for us.)
