The Briars/ Sky Watch

Last Sunday afternoon was so beautiful, my husband and I drove north to visit Jackson's Point on Lake Simcoe. Originally I planned to gather beach pebbles and take a few lakeside photos.

BUT since we were in the neighbourhood, we decided to spy on the rich and famous staying at take a few pictures of The Briars, a 200-acre, year-round resort approximately 70 minutes north of Toronto.

Well, anyone can drive in and look around the resort grounds. Ha! Even if they are wearing grubby jeans like I was. It's not stuffy even if Nicole Kidman once stayed there. ;-)

Nope! We didn't recognize anyone famous. But my camera was enchanted by this observation tower soaring six storeys into the pure blue sky. It overlooks part of the lake and the resort, which was once one of the most elegant estates on the water.

The original manor house, which you can see a bit of to the right of the tower, is a heritage building built in 1840. Over the years it has been added onto considerably to create a comfortable sanctuary surrounded by lush lawns, tennis courts, a golf course, gardens and forest.

I never knew this place existed. Thanks for the introduction. That observation tower looks quite substantial, and that clear blue sky is amazing.

Beautiful tower! So ornate. I tried to catch Sandra Bulloch the same way... when I was in Tybee... I heard she had a house on the island there.

Hi Ms. T.Guide, this is a pretty place. I don't think we could have a home like that, Hurricane Ike surely would have blown it down.
I like your cloudless sky, mine was the same sky as yours, "wonder where all the [clouds] is?"
Happy SkyWatching!

Wow, that is really something, that tower against the bright blue. Nothing like that here on the north shore - unless a water tower painted like a tomato counts? Naw!

What an unusual design with that impressive tower looking out on all the beauty around. It's fun to drop into these "resort" type places even if just to look around and get a few shots. Nice images.

Beautiful photos of most impressive buildings. Love that tower!

Thanks for your visit to my SWF post. I know 50 degrees at night sounds warm to you, but considering that for most of the summer the overnight low has been between 80 and 90 degrees, 50 feels pretty good!

I'd love to live in such a tower as that.... but like a recluse... Of course my tower would have to be 'run down' but I think it would be fun to hang out those windows shouting abuse at passer-bys...

Great pictures and sky watch post.

Did you see the old barn at http://forgottown.blogspot.com/ (Lynchburg, VA)?

The inside of that tower must be gorgeous with all those large windows all the way around! My first thought is that I would have to admonish my youngest son that the soccer ball is NEVER allowed up there under any circumstances. ;-)

Still, I wish I could build such a tower as an addition to my own home.
