Seeds/ One Single Impression

Poppy Pods

I ponder nature’s capsules -
living miracles,
dormant and appearing lifeless
yet chockfull of
wondrous possibilities.

I ponder political promises –
dynamic seeds
replete with wealth, success,
happiness and poof!
disappointing hocus pocus.

I ponder political rumors -
robust germs
alive with exaggeration, fear,
and malicious lies.
Is this democracy?

Please note: Canadians vote on October 14, 2008.

Thank you for this perfect photo and this very meaningful poem! I agree with you!

I have to read and reread this poem. You see poppies make me always think of their beauty and also of their dangerous attraction in another way. I think of the poppies destroyed in countries where they are grown for drugs reasons. Is that what you meant in this very great poem?

You, woman, are a jaded cynicv!

This is a fascinating response to the prompt. The link to the calling of the election is terrific. NZ is in the same boat.

All politicians deal in barren seeds.

Good job, we need more political poetry.

The contrast between living miracles and the often nightmarish seeds of political words is profound.

That is a wonderful photo.

I choose to place my faith in the 'wondrous possibilities' of nature! Well written, your observations hold the 'seeds of truth'.

Very intriguing take on the prompt. I draw a connection between the photo and the words, and think that politicians are addicted to the drug of their own power.

Well said! I feel like the US and our election here have moved into some kind of Twilight Zone and it's one of the really scary episodes. Lord help us all.

Congratulations on the award! You SO deserve it. The goat is adorable, and I WOULD believe it would eat a tin can... well, maybe not, but most anything else. And I LOVE these seed pods. (I'm catching up, can you tell?) The seed pods are just gorgeous. Excellent photo.

Lovely shot. The forms, the light, the sky, all well seen and well photographed.

First of all - wonderful image - love the light.
Your words could just as well fit the political scene here in the US - well done - I loved it.

Love the first stanza and it's 'wondrous possibilities'!

Being in the thick of the presidential election here for what now seems like the past 4 years, I am weary of the political promises -from every direction. I wish tomorrow were election day.

This is great and you just named something else for me. I took a shot of some of these a while back. I knew they were pods but didn't know of what. Thank you!

I love poppy pods and the way they pop when the blossom is ready.

This, it seems, is what democracy has become. A striking juxtaposition I wouldn't have imagined. And a good, good poem. Thank you.
