Spotted Sandpiper

Actitis macularius

Spotted sandpipers have ...er...spots. Or not. This one does because it's breeding season. By fall its breast will be spotless.

Foraging for a tasty tidbit

Handsome birds, me thinks.

Stretching

That perch and the pose in the first one are so perfect it reminds me of the carved versions of these birds. There ya go... life imitating art.

The spots must have something to do with attracting a mate. This is a beautiful avian and your photos are first rate!

I love this sandpiper for a couple reasons. Good looking bird, funny bob when it walks and an EASY sandpiper to ID! Sandpipers are one of the hardest groups of birds to figure out. Thankfully, there are a couple that are easy to figure out. Great pics!
