N/Alphabe-Thursday

Air horns behind diesel train engine circa 1950

N is for NOISE.

I bet these horns make a LOT of noise warning people they are about to enter an intersection!

I have never heard these horns in action. Going by Knipsa's comment, that might be a good thing.

Love old railroad stuff. Neat photos. Once in a while I see an old railroad bell on eBay ... it is amazing how much collectors will pay for them.

My dad was in the Merchant Navy and we had a bell much like photo 2 outside our front door . If we were out playing, my mom could ring it to let us know supper was ready.

They are extremely noisy!

Think I'd rather hear the bell than the horns. Great noisemaker pics.

I was walking under a foghorn as a kid once when it went off. Almost jumped in the ocean!

It's a wonder that all railway workers aren't deaf as posts!

Gosh darn, I was going to join back in when A was up again, and now you all are at N, and I'm still way behind. Your photo is ringing sweetly across my eyes!

I would like the sound of the bell but the horns probably make more noise.

They can certainly be awfully loud when you least expect it. Great shots!

I would not want to be standing near those horns...but bet the bell has a pleasant sound if not too close to it. And maybe even then.

Those air horns can be really loud! Don't you wish you could have blown one?

I'd like a horn like that for my car!

The bell is fascinating, Tina.
My high school was right next to the rail tracks, so we saw all kinds of trains go by - diesel electric, steam locomotive, etc. It was always fun hear the noises and to see if they were running on time.

Have a Beautiful Day!
Peace :)

These loud devices remind me of my neighbours....

Super post.

Have a nice day.

Mrs. Jim's mom, my MIL, used to live a blog away from the track. Those train noises are like music to us. Now where we are sometimes on the porch on a quiet and still winter night I can hear a train some miles away.
