Ice on the Pond/ Watery Wednesday
Taken this morning, this photo hints at how cold it was last night. After a dreary, cloudy yesterday, the clouds disappeared around sundown to leave clear skies. With no clouds to keep the warm air in, calm water developed a thin layer of ice. I hope you can see some of the subtle, delicate patterns.
The sky was still clear when I took this photo, which explains why the water looks so blue. This time of year the white bark on birches grabs my attention, even more so when it's reflected in water.
Red-winged blackbirds taunted me with their piercing screeches. They refused to land on any of the cattails so I could take a classic photo. But hey! Spring has only just begun. I have weeks yet to capture them with my camera.

Forest Walks/ My World
This photo was taken last week. Here the path is wide and gets plenty of sunshine, so last week it was clear of snow. But further into the trees where there's less sunlight the path was still covered with slippery ice. The forest hadn't wakened to spring yet.
Soon, though, spring flowers will decorate the area underneath the deciduous trees. I can hardly wait! And, YES, I will be taking photos.

Roof Decor/ Monochrome Maniacs
In it's day, this home was probably one of the nicest in Peterborough. It's now an old building close to the used-book stores that my husband and I enjoy visiting two or three times a year. Peterboruough is a university town so fascinating books can be found there.
I have no idea why this house has such a fancy decoration on its roof. A sitting area? Perhaps the view was wonderful way back when. It isn't now though.

Wooden Bridge/ SOOC
This photo was taken a week ago so the icy spots may actually be melted now. Our nights have been cold but the days have been, for the most part, above freezing. As you can see, snow still lingers in shady places.
Whitchurch-Stouffville (pronounced Sto-ville) is the town just south of East Gwillimbury on EG's east side. (EG encompasses 92 square miles, so is a BIG town area-wise and has quite a few towns on it's borders.)

Floating Leaf/ Ellipsis Monday
It is now alternately freezing into the icy puddle beneath it at night and floating in a melted pool of water during the day.
This week's Ellipsis...Monday Photo Shoot assignment (due Sunday night, March 29) is "things that float."

Gated Community/ Sky Watch
Here you see the sun going down over the gate house in a gated community in a town south of East Gwillimbury. Yes, I'm on the outside looking in. Beyond the gate is a golf course and beautiful mansions. I'm fascinated by the lamp, gate and roofs...but not envious of a lifestyle that fears

Below the Bridge/ Watery Wednesday
The sunshine, shadows, reflections, subtle colours and the fact that the ice has melted convinced me to take this photo.

This week's Photo Hunter challenge is: YELLOW
No, we don't still have all this snow. I took this photo on a very cold day a few weeks ago at a grass-strip airport just north of East Gwillimbury.

Silo in Monchrome/ Sepia Scenes
I'm not sure why this silo has a cupola and wind vane, but it's on a farm north of East Gwillimbury. It's the same one pictured in colour at More of Me - Another Side.
However, I do know that some grain silos have been converted into "cottages" or small homes, at least one of which exists in East Gwillimbury. If this IS one of those converted silos, I wonder how the occupants arrange their furniture along the curved outside walls. The staircases must be circular, don't you think? It must be a cozy lifestyle! (I wonder where I would keep all my stuff.)
FYI: Someday I hope to get brave enough to ask the owner of the for-sure silo house in East Gwillimbury to tell me all about his/hers. I have a photo taken from the road...but I'd LOVE to see it from the the doorway side. Until then...stay tuned.

Photo Hunter/ Four
This week's Photo Hunter challenge is: FOUR.
My town, East Gwillimbury, is situated in the northern part of York Region, the region just north of Toronto, Canada. It was designed by the world-famous Canadian architect, Douglas Cardinal, and nineteen yeas later, the building still looks great, at least to my eyes.

Sunset Over Puddles/ Sky Watch
The sunset was rather blah and undramatic...until I noticed the reflections in the farmer's puddly field. I had just enough time to snatch my camera and shoot before the sun disappeared below some drab clouds. Another near miss!

Port Perry Streetscape/Sepia Scenes
I love how the people of this tourist town take pride in their old buildings. This street is alive with people in summer because it leads straight to the lake. And the shops offer many items not found in malls. My favourite is the used book store!
