We were visiting a farm last Monday and I remarked to my husband that I wouldn't want to be a farmer in the winter. I guess this guy's job is easier on the nose this time of year. :) Nice find!
It's smart to spread the manure on the snow. When the snow is melting, the goody stuff is blending in when the soil and the acre is ready for spring plowing. We just thought about this, hubby and I. About smells and things like that. My mother(farmer's daughter) will always lighten up in her face when she smells manure from the fields. "Oh, it's smelling of spring." Getting elder I catch myself thinking likewise. The smell of coming spring bears lots of promises. enjoy Ken Follett! From Felisol
It is true it seems, a farmer's work in never done.
My daughter and her husband hope to get away for a few days after the calves are born and before moving cows and then branding. At least they sleep well. MB
Happily, the freshness of said manure is in question as the ground if frozen now...The farmer is ready for Spring, and the natural fertilizer he leaves for the land to unfreeze and enhance the crops...a perfect ruby in the country!
Thanks for visiting my little corner of the world. I hope you enjoyed your stay here. Please leave a comment before you leave so I can visit your blog.
You'd think the farmer would get a day off in the winter--love the photo.
ReplyDeletework is never done on a farm
ReplyDeleteIntriguing to see a farmer working in this weather. But then I suppose that if he waited for the snow to go, his job might go too.
ReplyDeleteGreat shot!

I just love looking at all that snow. It may be cold, but I just love snow. Hard work, being a farmer.
ReplyDeleteThe operator kind of blends with the machine in an intriguing way!
ReplyDeleteGod bless you!

And then the snow melts and the manure sinks into the ground to fertilize it for the new crops.
ReplyDeleteThis is a wonderful photo of a working farm!
Your picture brings back memories, but we had an old (not red) spreader and our tractor was John Deere green.

I did not know this was continued when there was snow on the ground! I have learnt something! Great shot!
ReplyDeleteThat's surprising that manure needs to be spread even with snow on the ground. I didn't know that.
ReplyDeleteWhat hard work it is to farm year-round!

No that is a cold job...to be out on a tractor in that type of weather. Especially if you are moving very fast.
