Foster Memorial/ My World

Thomas Foster Memorial, north of Uxbridge, Ontario - a sunny day

Inspired by the Taj Mahal as well as by Byzantine architecture, this Indiana limestone structure was built in 1935-36 to eventually  house the bodies of Thomas Foster (mayor of Toronto between 1925 and 1927), his wife and his daughter.

The metal on the entrance doors and windows are bronze. On Friday nights during the summer, concerts are held inside.

Marble and mosaics inside are beautiful. Taking my camera inside is on my to-do list. I just need to coordinate being there at times when it's open!

Golf course in winter

Yes, we still have snow here. It is snowing a bit today, although later today it will be mixed with rain and some of the snow will wash away. Snow is in the forecast for later this week...so NO it is not spring here yet.

I know a lot of you are tired of snow but I cannot afford to be. This is Canada and I must be realistic.  :) Spring will arrive soon...but not yet.  Besides, I really do believe fresh snow is very beautiful.

Snowy Field/ SOOC

A few flurries every day keeps the snow white, looking pristine, but the day I took this photo no snow fell and the sky was free of clouds. There's something invigorating about a blue sky!

TROTTERS

TRANSPORTATION. Okay, for sure the trotters go round and round the track not really going anywhere but they are moving the sulkies and drivers round and round too.

TRAIN

Four Canadian National engines are heading north and once around Lake Huron will head west pulling many railcars that are transporting goods to western Canada and beyond.

Late February/ Nature Notes

Freezing, melting, high winds, more snow

This week we experienced warmer than normal temperatures and then the thermometer plummeted. In the largest square you can see where the creek melted, then refroze when the water was still high, the creek lowered and most of the ice did too except for the bit still caught on the twigs.

You can see evidence of high winds where bark has been blown off a tree and is caught on a thin branch. Also tree seed pods and dried leaves have blown off their trees.

Ice and new fallen snow create  an inviting scene. One of the joys of living in a village far from the rest of civilization is that whenever you need to go shopping, my camera clamors to be taken along.  OK. OK. Maybe it's not my camera making all that noise but that voice inside my head that wants to take my camera.

Allan Gardens/ My World

My world outdoors is still frozen and mostly greys and whites, BUT if we head south, we can find an exotic place that's warm and cozy...about an hours drive from East Gwillimbury to balmy...

Toronto. Well, to a specific place in Toronto called the Allan Gardens Conservatory, a respite from the cold.

The glass covered gardens are chockful of colourful, exotic flowers  and even....

boasts a fishpond with statuary and running water (i.e. NOT ice and snow).

Checkerboard/ Weekend Reflection

I think it's the gauze curtain in the window that makes this reflection so wonky, perfect for the "crooked little man."  You do remember the rhyme, right?
