White-breasted Nuthatch (Sitta carolinensis)
I love these well-mannered guys! Even in summer we fill our peanut feeder for them - and also for red-breasted nuthatches, and downy and hairy woodpeckers.
With a sunflower seed
This time of year white-breasted nuthatches often hang around with chickadees. There's safety in numbers plus chickadees are clever at finding where food is, which makes it easier for their nuthatch buddies.

I'm always amazed how they can just walk on the tips of their claws. Its back is close in color to the bluish grey of the Canadian Nuthatch here, but the rusty color is just on its underparts. Cute! I like the intrepid pose of the first bird.
ReplyDeleteOh I just LOVE these little birds! Great captures!
ReplyDeleteSuper photography!
ReplyDeleteI've almost always seen them travelling with little flocks of Chickadees.
ReplyDeleteI like them too, and I too have always seen them around chickadees.

ReplyDeleteNice shots! That bird has a long beak and big feet. I like how you captured the birds with food in their beaks.
ReplyDeleteThey are such lovely little birds! Great photos.
ReplyDeleteWe have both at our feeders and I am partial to the chickadees. I've never got a picture of either with a seed in the beak. Well caught.
ReplyDeleteThese beautiful birds are smakoszmi peanut see. Regards.
ReplyDeleteOh, these are such cute little ones! And, as always, your captures are superb and, as always, I love all the detail that I would never be able to see otherwise!! Hope your week is off to a great start! Enjoy!
ReplyDeleteA cracking little bird.
ReplyDeletesuch a pretty little bird!
ReplyDeleteI love the Nut Hatch ... mine hang with the Chicadees as well, but no need to find the food. They spend the day at my feeders and they nest in the trees on my shore. They are comical little characters and like the Chicadee, bordering on freindly. These are great pictures ... Hope your week is off to a good start.
