White-breasted Nuthatch

 White-breasted Nuthatch (Sitta carolinensis)

I love these well-mannered guys!  Even in summer we  fill our peanut feeder for them - and also for red-breasted nuthatches, and downy and hairy woodpeckers.

 With a sunflower seed

This time of year white-breasted nuthatches often hang around with chickadees. There's safety in numbers plus chickadees are clever at finding where food is, which makes it easier for their nuthatch buddies.

  8. I'm always amazed how they can just walk on the tips of their claws. Its back is close in color to the bluish grey of the Canadian Nuthatch here, but the rusty color is just on its underparts. Cute! I like the intrepid pose of the first bird.

  26. I love the Nut Hatch ... mine hang with the Chicadees as well, but no need to find the food. They spend the day at my feeders and they nest in the trees on my shore. They are comical little characters and like the Chicadee, bordering on freindly. These are great pictures ... Hope your week is off to a good start.
