Female American Kestrel/Wild Bird

Female kestrel ((Falco sparverius)

A couple of weeks ago, I posted photos of a male American kestrel HERE and Friday I was lucky enough to spot a female hunting in a nearby area.

Side view

She watched me, let me get quite close until a BIG truck scared her away.

From below

Luckily for me, she allowed me to approach her again so I could take a photo of her from below.

I am joining Stewart M's Wild Bird Wednesday HERE

Awesome photos! I only see the females here and they are extremely skittish, not allowing me to get close at all. You did great!

These are so sharp and clear! I posted our resident male today also. Not as close up as yours are though. I don't think I have seen the female around our place.

I have had the privilege of knowing a female Kestrel in person and she was a lovely, fiesty little girl we called Lady Kestrel. I loved her dearly and her little male partner Darwin. They were residents at a Rehab facility and we used them in our education programs. They are never more beautiful though, than when you see them in the wild. Thank you for these lovely pictures, EGCG.

Cool shots of the kestrel! I am not sure if I would notice the difference in the male and female kestrels.

Super shots!

She's a little beauty! There were 2 redtails circling around above our place and all the traffic yesterday and I thought of you with your wonderful rural bird shots. i didn't have a camera with me and probably would have been run over trying to get an urban bird shot.

Beautiful bird, we have kestrels here on the Great Orme. Usually I see them hovering high above, although I did manage to see one perched on a wall on my walk around the Orme a few weeks back. Great photos.
