Female kestrel ((Falco sparverius)
A couple of weeks ago, I posted photos of a male American kestrel HERE and Friday I was lucky enough to spot a female hunting in a nearby area.
Side view
She watched me, let me get quite close until a BIG truck scared her away.
From below
Luckily for me, she allowed me to approach her again so I could take a photo of her from below.
I am joining Stewart M's Wild Bird Wednesday HERE

Wow, what a beautiful bird!
Very cooperative lady!!
she's beautiful!!
Awesome photos! I only see the females here and they are extremely skittish, not allowing me to get close at all. You did great!
You definitely had a good day.
You got clear captures. It looks great!
Wow. great shots. She is quite tame to humans.
Wow! These Kestrals must be very different than I've ever encountered. Beautiful pictures.
These are so sharp and clear! I posted our resident male today also. Not as close up as yours are though. I don't think I have seen the female around our place.
I had never even heard of this bird let a lone see a picture on one. It's lovely. Thanks for bringing it right to me!
Beautiful bird! She's every bit as pretty as the male...and your photography skills are amazing.
She struck some beautiful poses for you. Your captures are amazing Camera Girl.
Just great! Indeed!
Great captures. She is looking right into the camera lens in that fist shot!
Very nice shots. I am surprised she let you take so many pics. They are pretty skittish here. MB
Wonderful images!
Piękny ptak i na pierwszym zdjeciu najładniej wyglada. Pozdrawiam.
Beautiful bird, and the first photograph looks the nicest. Yours.
in the side view he looks like second cousin to a hawk
wow! she's a beauty.
I have had the privilege of knowing a female Kestrel in person and she was a lovely, fiesty little girl we called Lady Kestrel. I loved her dearly and her little male partner Darwin. They were residents at a Rehab facility and we used them in our education programs. They are never more beautiful though, than when you see them in the wild. Thank you for these lovely pictures, EGCG.

Cool shots of the kestrel! I am not sure if I would notice the difference in the male and female kestrels.
Super shots!
She's a little beauty! There were 2 redtails circling around above our place and all the traffic yesterday and I thought of you with your wonderful rural bird shots. i didn't have a camera with me and probably would have been run over trying to get an urban bird shot.
Such a sweet little bird, I love the patterned featherd and the gorgeous clarity here!
Great clear photos against the blue sky.
such pretty feather patterns!

I like the expression on her face in the first shot.
You do such a good job of photographing and identifying these birds.

Beautiful bird, good spotting.
Amazing marking details on this intriguing bird! Lovely photos!
Kestrals are so neat! These are great photos - the middle one is my favourite - the tail wings are nice.
Beautiful bird, we have kestrels here on the Great Orme. Usually I see them hovering high above, although I did manage to see one perched on a wall on my walk around the Orme a few weeks back. Great photos.
Man, I wish I could get photos like this! Fantastic shots!
These are such wonderful, crisp, close-up images. Don't you just adore Kestrels? They are way too pretty!
These are spectacular! Beautiful shots! Am I the only one not seeing hawks? Ugh.
What a wonderful bird! You may make a birder of me yet.
