Favourite Photo of 2013

Red-bellied woodpecker

I find it difficult choosing favourite photos...especially one for an entire year. However, I confess that in October when I accidentally lost many of  the photos I'd taken between January and October - I dropped an external hard drive - the photos I mourned the most (at least at first) were of this red-bellied woodpecker.

FYI: I was pleasantly surprised to find a folder of red-bellied woodpecker photos still on my computer. YAY!

That is my worst night mare to loose everything on my external hard drive. Documents I can re-create but not my photos. I am so glad that you were able to find this. Happy New Year !!!

Wonderful clarity, EG. I have dropped hard drives and lost the lot, too. I never seem to have enough backups.

So beautiful. I am looking forward to photographing birds once we live in Blois permanently but I have a long way to go before I can produce something similar!

I love these woodpeckers too. When I lived in Virginia and then later in North Carolina I could see (and photograph) these guys all the time. I miss 'em. Anyway, it's a wonderful shot you have there. Happy New Year!

One of the most memorable bird pictures I have ever seen! So glad you did at least find some of the lost pictures again! I have lost an entire year, parts of 2008 and 2009, due to an external harddrive that simply stopped working. Since then, I have 3 different hard drives, seeing as the cost of storage space has gone down considerably. I hope you'll never again experience such a catastrophic event!

Happy New Year to you and yours,
Merisi

This is a great shot - so glad you didn't lose it! And the second one is wonderful, too! The woodpecker actually looks joyous; I suppose a peanut is quite a score. Happy New Year!

Fabulous, EG. I can see why you picked this wonderful image.

Losing nearly a year's worth of photos? Say it isn't so! Every since Janet from Sarasota lost all of hers, I have been backing my laptop up faithfully and I have bought a second hard drive to use for belt and suspenders. (Haven't backed it up yet, but maybe tomorrow!)

You inspire many! Your woodpecker image is a prime example.

May 2014 be filled many more opportunities and incident proof hard drives.
