ANYthing red? OK, here goes. ;-)
Lately I've been fascinated by pond life and this is one of the critters living close to a nearby pond. It's a male Calico Pennant dragonfly (Celithemis elisa). Sorrry, females do NOT qualify for this post because they're a golden colour. (Besides, I don't have a photo of a female. LOL)

Fantastic dragonfly!
… marvellous attribution of colours! Very beautiful creature, ideal for close up shoot!
Great closeup picture
Just how did you make it stand still for so long? Very nice Depth of field. Impressive picture and patience!
This is a lovely blog and your photos are beautiful! I love the Calico Pennant! I have only seen one once and I could not believe the beauty of the heart shaped designs on it.
Your photograph is striking and beautiful. These creatures play an important part in Nature.
I came to thank you for the comments about my school in 1944. The school is typical and widespread across the Midwest. One teacher for all 8 grades in one room. As a student in grade 1 you got to hear lessons in the other seven grades and by the time you were in the 8th grade you had not only had your own lessons each year in all the subjects but you got to hear all the lessons in all the grades the other students had.
There was never a single problem and discipline was expected.
My this is good.. I have no luck at all with Dragonflies or Butterflies... this one is excellent.

Spectacular shot!
Have a great Ruby Tuesday.
I have never seen such a close up of a dragonfly before! This is simply fantastic!
I could not agree more with the other comments - this is a gorgeous creature and the image has such wonderful clarity.
The poor little thing looks quite pooped - as though she is hanging on for dear life!
Do you use a special lens? It looks like you are so close! Really enjoyable photos, thanks for sharing them.

He is a mighty handsome dragonfly! Just perfect.
What a close up! Just wonderful. Have a great Tuesday!
Handsome fellow!
If I was a female Calico Pennant, I could go for him in a big way!
WOW! Thank you so much for sharing this fantastic photo... so beautiful!
You made my day!
So is the male dragonfly prettier than the female? Dragonflies are the nicest looking of insects...
Wow what a great photo of that dragonfly!
Well, that shot completely blows me away.
It's not only the dragonfly, but the great technique of your shot. Getting so much of it in focus must not be easy. Must take a heck of a lot of patience...
Fantastic shot! I need to look for a pond. I would love to find just one little dragonfly.
Wow, very nice!
Very, very nice, EG! A gorgeous photo and a very red beautiful drangonfly! Thanks for participating in Ruby Tuesday! :)
GORGEOUS photo! Wow.
What an awesome photo! Fantastic close-up!
Beautiful! I love dragonflies.
I really need to get a new lens for my camera! I want to catch insects like this, too. :D
Thanks for visiting my A Cook's Bounty blog.
I had never seen a dragonfly before blogging and now I find wonderful photos of them
This is one of the best I've ever come across!
I can find no words worthy of this picture!!
Absolutely exellent!!!
Outstanding image. I love the lacy wings. Encore!!
Happy Ruby Tuesday.

Beautiful nature shot. : )
Wow! Your macro lens is Waaaaaaay better than mine! This little guy is fabulous!!
WOW! This is a fabulous shot! I have started seeing some "red" ones around here...I wonder if they are the same kind.
Very pretty!
Amazing photo. Your are quite talented and probably a lot more patient than I am.

Great capture!!
I've been seeing a few of these hanging out, but, like you I don't have a photo of the female. (Well, maybe you have one by now, lol.) I've been watching for them since the males usually hang around the breeding grounds waiting for the female also. I figure one may show up one day and I hope I can get a shot.
