Change in the Weather/ Sky Watch
How nice of the clouds to wait for the sun to go down before completely taking over the sky. To the right of the photo you can catch a glimpse of what the day (Tuesday) had been like, and to the left you can guess what the next day had in store.

Old Field Rake/ Sepia Scenes
I took this photo yesterday -- through the museum fence -- because I liked the shadows on the snow. (YAY! The sun was out!) I was also attracted by the rake's metal wheels and the curved tines.

Ice Fishing/ My World
Nobody's home. These huts are on a fishing club's private pond on the southeast side of East Gwillimbury. As you can see, one hut is made of plywood, the other is a frame covered with plastic. Although it wasn't a very cold day, the wind was biting. I could understand why the fishers were someplace else!
No wind, little sun and poor visibility. Lake Simcoe is a large lake and I had to zoom in for you to see how the fishers drive themselves out to their huts on snowmobiles, four-wheelers and even trucks. Yep, the ice is that thick!
Not all fishers have huts; some brave the cold in their super-warm outer gear. There were lots of people wearing bright orange that morning.
And here I want you to notice how the fishers use augers to drill holes in the ice.

Engine 2234/ SOOC
Orange is so welcome on January's white landscape. This photo is straight out of the camera except for being downscaled (is that correct term?) so it wouldn't take forever to load onto your monitor.

Misty Sunset/ Sky Watch
It had been one of those long dreary days with no sunshine, when just as the sun was getting ready to set it peeked through the mist and clouds to remind us it was still up there. The sky was lovely for a few minutes and then POOF! it was gone.
I also like the way the dark clouds to the left almost mirror the shape of the trees at the edge of this farmer's field. Pure serendipity.

Old Silo/ Sepia Scenes
The silo is old - not the photo, although I admit to having shot it a couple of weeks ago during an early-winter thaw.
The silo and adjacent barn are slowly falling apart. Sad but true.
To obtain the old-timey sepia look, I used Photoshop Elements to first transform the original photo into black and white. I then applied a 50% sepia filter using a new adjustment layer.

Clearing The Ice/ My World
It was a cold Saturday morning (well below zero on the Fahrenheit scale, -24 Celsius), but tons of people were outdoors enjoying the rare (so it seems lately) winter sun. This dad, son and golden retriever were clearing a place on the edge of the lake to skate, almost like in the olden days...except the dad had a snow blower.
Got to love this age. Doesn't the boy look happy shoveling snow?

Bench & Shadow/ Monochrome Maniacs
Lately I'm fascinated by shadows. If only the sun would indulge me more! At last -- as you can see -- it broke through the clouds long enough for me to snap this photo.

Old barn foundation/ SOOC
You are probably scratching your head and wondering why I'm posting this old barn foundation. The answer: because I LIKE it. And I like the snow-covered weeds in front and the evergreens in the distance. The old foundation has secrets. How can we make it divulge what it knows?

A Touch of Red/ Sepia Scenes
Using Photoshop Elements, I duplicated the photo to create two layers. Then I converted the second layer into sepia using the old paper filter (yep, again. I like that filter!), and then, using the eraser, I removed the old paper over the red ball. Finally, I merged the two layers and voila! Hope you like it!
