Potatoes are one of East Gwillimbury's major crops, rotated with corn, wheat, soybeans, lettuce, cabbage and others. I originally stopped to take photos of the field (see below) but as the sun set the sky grew very beautiful. ;-)
This was to be the original photo (it wasn't going to be a Sky Watch).
Yes, it's a bit dark but the plants were growing so quickly I was afraid by the next time I drove by the rows would be covered with foliage. We've had a good amount of rain this year and everything is growing quickly and well.
But I had to drive back the next day anyway to get a decent shot of the blossoms. LOL Aren't they lovely? Ha! Would you believe they are from the same plant as the lowly potato?

Oh my i have never known that potatoe plants would have such beautiful flowers on them this is truly beautiful.
A beautiful series. I had forgotten what the flowers look like on potatoes. We used to grow them years ago.
I liked that quiet shift from the sky to the nice potato flowers. They were really great!
Love your pictures..and no potato beetles?
Greetings from Guildwood.
Love the colors in your shot. Potatos are so ugly to have such a beautiful blossom. Who knew...? You, I guess.
Lovely, indeed. Was there a storm brewing?
I've got butternut squash growing in my garden and it has a beautiful yellow blossom! Wonderful series for SWF!
And why not over the potatoe fields? A beautiful sunset! Beautiful plants.
EG: Very lovely sunset, you have to take the shot avaiable at the time. That is always my goal.
Gorgeous series of photos!
Lovely post!!
Petunia's SWF

I had no idea that flowers grew on a potato plant. Plus they are really pretty.
Great photos and great post.
Enjoyed reading your info too.
The Team thanks you for your post and making this venture a success.
Hello from Colorado. Nice pictures. I have never seen a potato field.
This is a fantastic photo! I love the pastel colors of the sky! thanks for the comment!

Greate Sky Watch post.
Have a nice weekend, from AnneKa in Norway
Love that sky shot--really beautiful. Like the info as well...didn't realize you were in potato growing country.
Beautiful, subtle sky. Fine healthy, blight free spuds you have.
Wow,the sunset was beautiful, and so is the photo of the potato Field, and the potato-flowers.
You did a fantastic job on photographing the potato field... very impressive.... totally enjoyed these.

Thank you for joining in with use, welcome to the new blog... onwards and up wards.

For a sky post those are lovely potato flowers!! I had no idea they had such lovely flowers. My fave vegetable is the potato.
Yoou're not kidding EG, WOW! Incredible Skywatch shot! I have a Skywatch shot up too! :)
Outstanding images... all of them!! Who would have known that the potato plant would yield such a pretty flower?
An amazing potato field!
Great shots especially the potato buds! Didn't remember how beautiful they were. And of course the mood in #1. Gorgeous! Cheers, Klaus
Beautiful sunset.
hehe I did the same thing last week at a potato field here. Never did get the potato plants but the sunset was amazing as is yours. RYC: we've been having very hot humid weather here in northeast US and they are talking about thunderboomers but so far nothing.
Love seeing the growing potatoes, but that sky is a stunner!
Potato Field are more beautiful than we can imagine. A great serie of pictures. Particularly the flowers one, I had forgotten how they looked "graceful" and fragile.
Very cool. I really don't think I've ever seen potato blossoms before. I like them. I love all your photos the sky and the fields...
I really like the soft, subdued quality to the first one. Just lovely.
Those spuds are beautiful. Thanks for these!
Gorgeous pictures!! Wow!!!
Lovely. Looks like cotton candy.
Hi! How could one resist not capturing this shot. Very beautiful. Lisa
For some reason, I can’t get enough of pictures of fields full of vegetables. This reminds me very much of my home region (lots of root vegetables grown there, they don’t grow so much in the south of Tasmania).
I do like how looking at pictures of East Gwillimbury makes me homesick for North West Tasmania!
All your photos are wonderful -- every one, even the potato field. I don't think I've ever really looked at a potato blossom before; they're really lovely. And, I never thought about potatoes making seeds, either. That's another new thing I've learned today!
I've planted potatoes before but I can't remember the blooms being as beautiful as those.
Never would I have named these beautiful blossoms as those of potatoes. Other photos are lovely too but the up close blossoms are my favourites. Nice.
very very nice.
I remember seeing places like this in Nova Scotia. Your photos really capture how beautiful the potato plant really is.
Beautiful photos!
The sky is beautiful but those rows and rows of potatoes are what caught my eye. We grow a few potato plants in our garden but they look so impressive in a mass like that.
Darla
nice pic!
I can't recall ever seeing potato flowers! They remind me of nightshade. Can they be in the same family?!
Love your sunset -- quiet and beautiful!
Nice photos.
Mary,
Potatoes, tomatoes and nightshade are all in the same family. ;-)
EG
I love the sky shot, but oh that field. I live in farm country. It's a different kind of beautiful, but beautiful nevertheless.
MY dad grew spuds, and some of his varieties had purple flowers... and I used to pick bunches of them, he used to get very cross with me!
They are a very interesting shape aren't they?
Great pictures.
I'm surprised at the amount of cemmenters that say they have never seen a potato plant before.
Nice sky watch photo. I love the potato field.
Very beautiful sunset! The potato blossoms are really beautiful!
I had no idea potato plants were so pretty ... I show you NYC and you show me your corner of the world .. its a perfect trade!
:-Daryl
Great shot of a beautiful sky. I just took some potato field pics too. Also a huge crop in the valley here. Same flower only purple. MB
Those are very healthy looking potatoes, and the field makes an attractive shot but that sky - superb!
I allways love the sunset pictures. Great colours!
Lucky you! Three great shots and one stop! Great SWF!
Great photo! I love the blossoms! Happy SWF!
Wonderful sequence of pictures for a great Sky Watch!
Wonderful photos! Well done!
Thanks for your nice visiting on my place! You are welcome!
Hi Tour Guide -- You pictures are very nice. Potato fields are pretty when in bloom if they have enough moisture to stay green.
BTW, when I was born (at home) my parents were very poor. The only way they could pay the doctor was by selling some potatoes. We had an unusual harvest in our larger than most potato garden.
..
You know, I don't know if I have ever seen potatoes growing -- of if I have, I certainly didn't know what they were...
Hope you are having a great Sky Watch Friday, and thanks for the comment on AphotoAday.
Best regards, Don.
How pretty. Not at all how I imagined
a potato field to look like.
You must know that many young people honestly believe that chickens are made by Tyson and potatoes are made by the french fry people who supply all the fast food joints.
I just wanted to say, I read your comments with interest and am glad that you seem to enjoy what I post. Thank you.

It has been a long time since I hoed potatoes and I had forgotten how interesting the flowers are! Nice sky watch! I also really liked your butterfly photo. I didn't know what kind these were!
Have a wonderful weekend!
My SkyWatch Here
We used to have few spuds on the garden when we were kids. Nice pictures and good post!
A really beautiful colored sunset!
all wonderful shots you have here.
